    • An acoustic device with an enclosure and a first passive radiator structure which includes a first passive radiator diaphragm. The first passive radiator structure has an effective radiating area and a first mass, and is mounted to the enclosure such that its diaphragm can vibrate relative to the enclosure. There is a second passive radiator structure which includes a second passive radiator diaphragm. The second passive radiator structure has substantially the same effective radiating area as the first passive radiator structure, and is mounted to the enclosure such that its diaphragm can vibrate relative to the enclosure. At least one active electro-acoustic transducer is mounted to the second passive radiator structure such that it moves when the diaphragm vibrates. The second passive radiator structure and the active transducer together have a second mass that is substantially greater than the mass of the first passive radiator structure. Passive radiators with the same effective radiating area results in force balancing of the device.

    • A cooktop power control system for a cooktop that has a plurality of burners, where the cooktop power control system controls the power delivered from two or more separate active burners to separate cookware items each of which is associated with an active burner. There is a maximum limit of total power that is available for delivery from all of the burners together. There is a heating control user interface associated with each of the burners, each heating control user interface constructed and arranged to be set by a user to a particular heating control user interface setting. A desired cookware temperature is derived from the setting of each heating control user interface. The measured temperatures of the cookware items are available to the cooktop power control system. The system has a controller that, when a plurality of burners are in sum calling for more than the maximum limit of total available power, automatically alters the power delivered from at least one of the active burners in comparison to the power called for by such burner, the alteration based on both the measured cookware temperatures of the cookware items that are associated with the active burners and the desired cookware temperatures derived from the heating control user interfaces that are associated with the active burners.

    • A directional acoustic device that has an acoustic source or an acoustic receiver, and a conduit to which the acoustic source or acoustic receiver is acoustically coupled and within which acoustic energy travels in a propagation direction from the acoustic source or to the acoustic receiver, the conduit having finite extent at which the conduit structure ends. The conduit has a radiating portion that has a radiating surface with leak openings that define controlled leaks through which acoustic energy radiated from the source into the conduit can leak to the outside environment or through which acoustic energy in the outside environment can leak into the conduit. The only path for acoustic energy in the conduit to reach the external environment or acoustic energy in the external environment to enter the conduit is through the controlled leaks. The leak openings define leaks having a first extent in the propagation direction, and also define leaks having a second extent at locations along the conduit with a constant time delay relative to the location of the source or receiver. The extents of the leaks are determinative of the lowest frequency where useful directivity control is obtained. The lowest frequency of directivity control for the leak in the propagation direction is within three octaves of the lowest frequency of directivity control for the leak with constant time delay.
