To each liquid-crystal-side pixel region of one substrate out of respective substrates which are arranged while sandwiching liquid crystal therebetween, a first switching element and a second switching element which are operated in response to a scanning signal from a gate signal line, a pixel electrode to which a video signal is supplied from the drain signal line through the first switching element, and a counter electrode to which a reference voltage signal is supplied from a reference voltage signal line through the second switching element, and the pixel electrode and the counter electrode are respectively formed of strip-like transparent conductive layers and are substantially alternately arranged in the inside of the pixel region.

    • A liquid crystal display device includes plural video signal input parts which supply pixel drive voltages to the respective video signal lines of a liquid crystal display device, and each of the video signal input parts includes a field-effect transistor, a first part which sets a voltage value of a control electrode of the field-effect transistor to a voltage value obtained by correcting a common pixel drive voltage by a threshold voltage of the field-effect transistor, a second part which sets the voltage value of the control electrode of the field-effect transistor to a voltage obtained by adding a video signal voltage to the voltage value corrected by the first part, and a third part which supplies a voltage obtained by adding the video signal voltage to the common pixel drive voltage, to the video signal line as well as to the field-effect transistor, the voltage value of whose control electrode is set by the second part to the voltage obtained by adding the video signal voltage to the voltage value corrected by the first part. This construction prevents the difference in offset level from occurring in the pixel drive voltage to be supplied to the respective video signal lines, owing to a shift of the threshold value of the field-effect transistor.

    • Eliminating differences in cell gap of a liquid crystal panel is effected to prevent display irregularities while avoiding contamination of the liquid crystal material due to unwanted contact of a seal material with the liquid crystal material. To this end, the liquid crystal panel includes a first substrate DSUB having multiple pixel electrodes AL-P in the form of a matrix, a second substrate USUB opposing the first substrate with a specified gap therebetween and having one or more transparent electrodes ITO-C, a liquid crystal layer LC made of a liquid crystal material sealed in the gap between the opposing substrates, and an alignment film on at least one of inner surfaces of the first and second substrates in contact with the liquid crystal layer for controlling alignment of the liquid crystal material. A plurality of pole-like spacers SPC-P are provided in a display area of the first substrate DSUB for retaining the gap between the first and second substrates DSUB, USUB at a predefined value while providing a band or strip-like spacer SPC-S that is made of the same material as that of the pole-like spacers and is formed to surround the display area and also has a width greater than the diameter of the pole spacers along with a sealing material SL filled along the outer edges of the strip spacer SPC-S for allowing the first substrate DSUB and the second substrate USUB to be tightly bonded together.
