    • A marking tile is disclosed, for use in conjunction with pedestrian platforms and walkways. The preferred embodiment of the tile has a plurality of buttons or longitudinal strips projecting upwardly therefrom to provide a distinctively textured upper surface. The upward projections are of a lower height adjacent each exposed edge than elsewhere on the tile. An integral flange, vertical or angled away from the vertical, projects downwardly from each exposed edge. The edges of the tile which are exposed to pedestrian traffic may have a downwardly angled portion such that the height of the upper surface of the tile at the exposed edge is substantially at the height of the lower surface of the rest of the tile, so that the edge may be installed flush with the platform or walkway if the surface of the platform or walkway is bevelled beneath the angled portion. The button surfaces and the surface of the tile between the buttons are provided with a plurality of small upward projections to texture the surfaces.

    • A parking space barrier comprises a stationary base for anchoring to the ground of a parking space and a moveable pylon attached to the base member by an extensible cable. The pylon comprises a cushioned peripheral portion upstanding from a carriage containing a spring motor attached to one end of the cable. A wirelessly operated lock remotely controlled by the car driver secures the carriage to the base adjacent the entrance to the parking space. A car entering the parking space engages the cushioned peripheral portion and pushes the pylon before it across the parking space to a vehicle admitting position, the cable extending under the car and winding the spring motor so that the pylon will be drawn back by the spring motor and cable with the car when reversing out of the parking space. A manually operable arresting device is provided to maintain the pylon in the vehicle admitting position remote from the base member, if required. An indicator showing the condition of the locking device is mounted at the top of the pylon and directly linked to the locking mechanism to show the locking position.

    • A traffic marker includes an upright cone-shaped member (10) and a base (16). Two orifices (18) and (26) are provided on the upper end of the cone-shaped member (10) and on opposite sides thereof. A bracket (20) is provided having an interior portion (30) and an exterior portion (28). The bracket is operable to be inserted through the orifice (26) such that the distal end of the interior portion (30) contacts the interior surface of the cone-shaped member (10) at a point (38). An orifice (34) is disposed in the interior member (30) through which a flag (24) can be inserted. The flag (24) is inserted through the orifice (18) on the opposite side of the cone-shape member (10) through the orifice (34) to contact the opposite sides of the interior surface of the cone (10) at a point (36).

    • A method of protecting a roadway maintenance or construction site in which a crash cushion is suspended beneath a straddle carrier-type vehicle. The crash cushion preferably comprises an inertial system of free standing sand filled plastic containers or other suitable impact attenuator which in some cases is used with a backup structure. The vehicle is connected to a towing vehicle and is towed to the maintenance or construction site or can also be used in a self-propelled configuration. When the crash cushion is located in a position to block oncoming traffic at the site, it is lowered onto the roadway and disconnected from the straddle carrier-type vehicle. The towing vehicle and straddle carrier-type vehicle can then be removed from the site leaving the crash cushion in a fixed and favorable position relative to oncoming traffic.
