    • A flat cable connector includes a housing on which a cover is positioned. A strain relief is positioned on the cover to interpose a portion of a flat cable therebetween. A leading end of the flat cable is bent over the cover and interposed between the cover and the housing. Insulation displacement contact (IDC) elements are retained in the housing and pierce into wires of the flat cable to establish electrical connection therewith. Pins are mounted on the cover and extend through holes defined in the strain relief and the housing. Free ends of the pins are mechanically deformed to secure the strain relief and the cover to the housing. The pins may be integrally formed with the cover. Alternatively, the pins are replaced by rivets which extend through holes defined in the strain relief, the cover and the housing to rivet them together.

    • An insulation displacement contact connector for engaging with a predetermined section of a flat cable comprises an insulative housing having a plurality of contacts projecting therefrom each including a piercing end. Two receptacles extend from distal ends of the housing and each receptacle is a closure defining a slit from an upper edge to a lower edge thereof resulting in tolerance space when an external part is inserted into the receptacle. An insulative cover and a locking cover are engaged with the housing in order to force the piercing ends of the contacts to be electrically connected to the cable, wherein the insulative cover and the locking cover each have two arms inserted into the receptacles, respectively, while not damaging the housing.

    • An insulation displacement connector is used to engage with a flat cable by inserting an insulative cover thereof into an insulative housing thereof to a half-insertion status thus defining a space between the insulative cover and the insulative housing for reception of a predetermined section of the flat cable, and then compressing the insulative cover to fully engage the insulative housing thus forcing contacts in the insulative housing to pierce the predetermined flat cable and electrically connect to the related conductive lines enclosed in sheaths of the flat cable.
