    • A coaxial right-angle plug connector includes a "clean" right-angle inner contact member having a continuous insulative cover molded therearound including the bend to be self-retaining thereon and to have consistently concentric coaxial outer surfaces, with larger diameter cover portions around the portion within the conductive housing. The front horizontal contact portion and the outer contact therearound mate with contact means of conventional receptacle connectors, while the vertical portion of the inner contact descends from the housing near the front thereof reducing the length of the signal path and lessening reflection. The housed portion of the connector raises the average impedance over the length of the connector to approximate that of the cable used in the signal path of the coaxial patchboard programming system, by reason of large diameter cover portions of the inner contact adjacent the bend, while allowing floating of the insulated inner contact to adapt to a slightly misaligned printed circuit board hole.

    • Coaxial electrical connectors for printed circuit board and coaxial cable applications which are composed of a plurality of relatively low cost component parts designed to permit the connectors to be easily assembled by relatively unskilled personnel without requiring complex assembly equipment. Connectors of the invention are assembled from component parts by a method which includes the steps of encircling a center contact (23, 71, 122, 208, 305) with a dielectric base (21, 209, 306) and a dielectric insulating member (24, 72, 121, 207, 303) while engaging an outwardly projecting portion (49, 205) of the center contact (23, 71, 122, 208, 305) with the base (21, 209, 306); assembling an electrically conductive outer shell (26, 73, 102, 123, 125, 206, 302) to the base (21, 209, 306) while concentrically surrounding the center contact (23, 71, 122, 208, 305) and the dielectric insulating member (24, 72, 121, 207, 303) with the shell (26, 73, 102, 123, 125, 206, 302); and securing an electrically conductive member (22, 203) to the shell (26, 73, 102, 123, 125, 206, 302), while the conductive member (22, 203) engages and transversely overlies the base (21, 209, 306) and while the base (21, 209, 306) engages the dielectric insulating member (24, 72, 121, 207, 303). The connector family includes plug (65, 110, 300, 320) and jack (10, 100, 120, 130, 200) connectors of the threaded (100, 110, 130, 320) and quick disconnect (10, 65, 120, 200, 300) types, connectors which are adapted to be mounted to printed circuit boards (10, 65, 100, 110, 120, 130) and connectors which are adapted to terminate coaxial electrical cables (200, 300, 320). The plurality of connectors of the connector family are designed to share one or more components with other connectors in the family permitting a reduction in inventory requirements and a savings in over all manufacturing costs.

    • A coaxial connector 10 includes a conector body (21) and a plurality of grounding pin contacts (25, 25) extending from the connector body (21) to be extended into and through a plurality of apertures (32, 32) in a printed circuit board (12) to electrically and mechanically connect the connector (10) to the board (12). The grounding pin contacts (25, 25) have a length greater than the thickness of the board (12) and include first compliant pin contact portions adapted to be positioned within the apertures (32, 32) to frictionally engage the sidewalls of the apertures (32, 32) to frictionally retain the connector (10) to the board (12) and to electrically connect the connector (10) to the board (12), and second compliant pin contact portions (51, 51) which extend out of the apertures (32, 32) beyond the opposite side of the board (12) and which, upon, passing through the apertures (32, 32) expand to a diameter greater than that of the apertures (32, 32) to mechanically lock the connector to the board. The grounding pin contacts (25, 25) are formed integral with grounding pin contact means which is mounted to the outer shell (21) of the connector (10) after the compliant portions (51, 51) of the grounding pin contacts (25, 25) are formed to simplify manufacturing procedures and permit use of different materials for the grounding pin contacts (25, 25) and the outer shell (21).

    • An RF interconnect between a printed circuit board and a coaxial connector mounted in a housing is self-aligning along all three major axes. The coaxial connector has a pin connected to its inner conductor that extends beyond the edge of the outer conductor. The outer conductor has an external circumferential groove. The interconnect includes two terminals wherein the first terminal includes a substantially "M" shaped wire formed conductor having five functional segments: two flexible attaching segments near the ends of the wire, two substantially parallel pin contact segments, and a joining segment connecting the pin contact segments. The coaxial connector pin is inserted between the parallel pin contact segments of the wire formed conductor and a clamping force is generated on the pin by the joining segment. The second terminal includes a flat flexible conductor that has a "U" shaped lug at one end and a snap ring at the other end which is inserted into the groove of the coaxial connector. The flexible conductor is attached to the printed circuit board by passing a screw through the opening in the lug and threading it into a plated through hole in the printed circuit board.
