    • A rear projection display apparatus includes a housing, an optical engine installed in the housing, a multi-curvatures reflection mirror, a plane mirror and a screen, in which a plurality of reflection faces with a different curvature radius are disposed at the surface of the multi-curvatures reflection mirror according to the lengths of optical paths. An image beam is provided by the optical engine and the light paths are reflected and bended to the plane mirror by the multi-curvatures reflection mirror after image deformation is corrected. Finally, the optical paths are reflected and bended again by the plane mirror and the image is displayed on the screen. Whereby, the thickness of the apparatus can be reduced and the image deformation can be improved.

    • A Bi-Linear CCD Array is used to locate the centroid of a charge cloud produced by an MCP stack. Preferably, an anode comprises a checkerboard-like structure of x- and y- conductive pads. The x-pads are connected in columns and feed charge into x-charge buckets via a FET pass gate. The y-pads are connected in rows and feed charge into y- charge buckets via an FET gate. A conductive area collects charge that misses the x- or y- pads and is used to sense the arrival of a charge cloud. The x- and y-charge buckets, under the influence of x- and y-shift circuitry, pass their charge to x- and y-charge amplifiers. X- and y- counters keep track of the number of x- and y- shifts that occur before x- and y-detectors, connected to the x- and y-charge amplifier outputs respectively, locate the x- and y-bucket containing the most charge. Latching the x- and y-counter values when the respective x- and y-peaks occur captures the centroid coordinates of the charge cloud.

    • A video projection system employs a reflective light valve (10) that is optically addressed by an image from a cathode ray tube (12) and provides an output image for projection by means of a high intensity reading light directed to the output face of the liquid crystal light valve. Improved reading illumination is provided by scanning the face of the liquid crystal light valve (10) with a narrow beam of light (80) that moves across the liquid crystal in synchronism with the scanning image from the writing CRT (12). The scanned narrow band (80) of illumination is provided by a circular sequence of three quasi cylindrical lens (56, 58, 60) or mirrors (56a, 58a, 60a) mounted on a rotating wheel (52) and which may be made of sequentially different colors to provide a color display. Rotation of the lens or mirror bearing wheel (52) is synchronized with the vertical sync of the CRT scan, as are the index positions of each of the three lens or mirror segments on the wheel.

    • A cathode ray tube display system and method having bidirectional line scanning are disclosed. Bidirectional line scanning is achieved by scanning each odd numbered scan line from left to right and each even numbered scan line from right to left, thereby avoiding the necessity for retrace, or flyback. In order to avoid loss of intelligibility in displaying the video information received from a conventional source providing video information written only from left to right, as is conventional, the received video information is stored in memory by scan lines with each odd numbered line being read out in the same order as stored in memory and each even numbered line being read out in reverse order as stored in memory. Timed control is provided for processing of the video information and display thereof with bidirectional scanning, and geometric error correction is provided for both the horizontal and vertical scan generators.

    • The invention comes within the domain of synthetic images on a cathode scn and concerns a digital memory whose contents are cyclically read to constitute an image on the screen. The memory is divided into blocks each of which contains the data of a part of the image and which are cyclically controlled in such a way that within a line of the image, the blocks are read successively, whereas at the end of a line, a block is skipped. Thus, possible blanks in the image due to the breakdown of one of the blocks are distributed over the image and no longer erase a vertical column of the image.
