    • In certain aspects, a system for out-of-band configuring BIOS setting data (BIOSSD) includes a host computer and a service processor (SP). The SP stores a BIOSSD collection and a human interface data (HID) collection. The HID collection includes questions for data of the BIOSSD collection and corresponding options for each question. When a remote management computer sends to the SP an information request, the SP retrieves the HID collection and transmits the questions and the corresponding options to the remote management computer. In response to a command indicating a selected corresponding option, the SP changes corresponding data of the BIOSSD collection according to the command. When the BIOS executed at the host computer issues a BIOSSD update request to the SP, the SP transmits a copy of the BIOSSD collection to the BIOS chip of the host computer to replace the BIOSSD collection stored in the BIOS chip.

Embodiments include a component creation wizard that guides a user through the component creation process. The component creation wizard utilizes a project template file that includes templates of the required files for any given component, organized into a folder-based file structure. The component creation wizard searches the folders within the project template file according to project type, component categories, and template categories, as determined by a user, to locate and copy the applicable template files to create a BIOS component template.

    • Technologies are described herein for generating field replaceable unit (FRU) information files in a format that is readable by a management controller in accordance with IPMI such that the FRU and the management controller are interoperable. In particular, a FRU installation station is in operative communication with a general purpose computer comprising a FRU information conversion module. A script utilized by the FRU information conversion module is configured to receive FRU information relating to a specified FRU and convert the information FRU binary files or a FRU image binary.     • Certain aspects direct to a baseboard management controller (BMC), which is capable of reducing write cycles and increasing longevity of its non-volatile memory. The non-volatile memory of the BMC has a file system mounted thereon. The file system defines a configuration directory storing configuration data in a binary format and migration data. In booting, the firmware of the BMC compares its version information to the version information of the configuration data. If the version information matches, the BMC uses the configuration data as is. If the version information does not match, the firmware retrieves and uses the migration data to convert the first configuration data to an initialization (INI) file in a text-based format, and then converts the generated INI file back to the binary format to update the configuration data in the configuration directory. Finally, the firmware updates the migration data in the configuration directory for future migration use.
