    • The present invention is a method and system for automatically determining the trip of people in a physical space, such as retail space, by capturing a plurality of input images of the people by a plurality of means for capturing images, processing the plurality of input images in order to track the people in each field of view of the plurality of means for capturing images, mapping the trip on to the coordinates of the physical space, joining the plurality of tracks across the multiple fields of view of the plurality of means for capturing images, and finding information for the trip of the people based on the processed results from the plurality of tracks. The trip information can comprise coordinates of the people's position and temporal attributes, such as trip time and trip length, for the plurality of tracks. The physical space may be a retail space, and the people may be customers in the retail space. The trip information can provide key measurements along the entire shopping trip, from entrance to checkout, that deliver deeper insights about the trip as a whole.

    • The present invention is a method and system for selectively executing content on a display based on the automatic recognition of predefined characteristics, including visually perceptible attributes, such as the demographic profile of people identified automatically using a sequence of image frames from a video stream. The present invention detects the images of the individual or the people from captured images. The present invention automatically extracts visually perceptible attributes, including demographic information, local behavior analysis, and emotional status, of the individual or the people from the images in real time. The visually perceptible attributes further comprise height, skin color, hair color, the number of people in the scene, time spent by the people, and whether a person looked at the display. A targeted media is selected from a set of media pools, according to the automatically-extracted, visually perceptible attributes and the feedback from the people.

    • The invention is a method and apparatus for quickly marking object trajectories in an image sequence. The traditional method of manually tracking an object is by marking the location of the object in each image in the image sequence. In the present invention, the object is first tracked in one direction by one quick stroke of a spatial input device across the subsampled image sequence that is laid out in that direction. The object is then tracked in an orthogonal direction by another quick stroke of the spatial input device across the same subsampled image sequence that is laid out in the orthogonal direction. The intersections of the two tracks will then form the points of the 2-D neo-trajectory, which is then interpolated onto the image sequence. The invention is useful not only for quick manual annotation of tracks, but also for performance evaluation and optimization of automatic tracking algorithms. Example use of this invention is for behavior annotation and development of tools for automatic behavior analysis.

    • The present invention is a method and system for handling a plurality of information units in an information processing system, such as a multimodal human computer interaction (HCI) system, through verification process for the plurality of information units. More specifically, the present invention discloses a video image based tracking system that allows a computer to robustly locate and track an object in three dimensions within the viewing area of two or more cameras. The preferred embodiment of the disclosed invention tracks a person's appendages in 3D allowing touch free control of interactive devices but the method and apparatus can be used to perform a wide variety of video tracking tasks. The method uses at least two cameras that view the volume of space within which the object is being located and tracked. It operates by maintaining a large number of hypotheses about the actual 3D object location.
