    • A specially designed metal grounding cap is placed over a metal-plated housing boss upon which a printed circuit board is to be mounted by extending a screw through a hole in the circuit board and tightening the screw into a metal insert previously forced into the free end of the mounting boss. As the screw is tightened into the boss insert, an EMI grounding pad on the underside of the circuit board engages an end wall of the grounding cap and pushes it into forcible engagement with the inner end of the boss. The forcible engagement of the grounding cap end wall causes leg portions of the cap to pivot inwardly and engage portions of the plated boss side wall between the boss insert and the metal plated housing wall from which the boss inwardly projects. The installed grounding cap thus serves as a conductive bridge around plating disturbances on the boss, in the region of the forcibly installed insert therein, to maintain an EMI grounding path from the installed circuit board to the metal plating on the housing wall.

    • An electrostatic spray coating device for electrically conductive, non-combustible coating fluid. The coating fluid is accommodated in a pressure container (2) of electrically insulating plastic and connected over a tube (10) of electrically insulating material with a spraying device (8). An electric conduction path (53) heads off high voltage from the coating fluid (6) which is present in the pressure container (2) when the high voltage is switched off. Thereby the electrical capacitance of the device is reduced and simultaneously it is ensured that after the switching-off of the high voltage the coating fluid present in the pressure container (2) in a few seconds is no longer electrically charged. Thereby, immediately after the switching-off of the high voltage, the pressure container (2) can be opened, for example for the replenishing of coating fluid.

    • The disclosed switching system comprises a circuit breaker, a grounding device, a locking device for the grounding device, and a fluid filled axially movable cylinder connected at one end to the circuit breaker and including at the other end a spring loaded piston connected to the locking device. When the circuit breaker is opened upon the occurrence of a fault on a mating electric path, the cylinder and then an internal piston is moved to release the locking device to ground the electric path through the closure of the grounding device which is then opened. After about one second determined by a first flow passageway for throttling a flow of fluid between two compartments of the cylinder disposed on both sides of the piston and a second flow passageway with a check valve extending between those compartments, the piston and the cylinder are returned back to their original positions to lock the grounding device in its open position by the locking device. The abovementioned cylinder may be replaced by a stationary cylinder including a first piston connected to the circuit breaker and a second piston loaded with a spring and connected to the locking device. The cylinder includes the two outermost compartments interconnected through a communicating tube and two compartments on both sides on the first piston bridged by a throttle device and a check valve.

    • A cordless electrical appliance is provided with an adapter unit and the two of them can be rested upon a base unit. The base unit has contacts connected to a supply voltage, and includes an appliance-current path with appliance-current-path contacts, and an auxiliary-current path with auxiliary-current-path contacts. The base unit includes a step-down transformer whose primary is connected across the voltage-supply contacts and whose secondary is connected in the auxiliary current path. The auxiliary current path includes a relay winding which controls a relay switch in the appliance-current path. Both the adapter unit and the base unit are provided with grounding devices. The adapter unit is likewise provided with appliance-current-path contacts. When the appliance with its adapter unit is seated upon the base unit, in a particular predetermined position, the appliance-current-path contacts of the two units engage, and connecting means on the adapter unit bridge the auxiliary-current-path contacts of the base unit, thereby energizing the relay winding and closing the relay switch in the appliance-current path, and the grounding devices of the two units become electrically connected to each other.

    • An apparatus for rejecting an improperly installed plug-on unit, including a circuit controlling device, in an electric power distribution and metering system having a box-like enclosure. A pair of supports are attached to opposing sides within the enclosure with top surfaces substantially parallel to the back of the enclosure so that the plug-on unit can be secured thereto. The circuit controlling device includes a circuit breaker with plug-on jaws, a receptacle and a neutral connector at one end of the plug-on unit which plugs into a jaw of a ground assembly on the back of the enclosure. A plurality of U-shaped interference brackets are welded across the width of the enclosure above the top surface of one support where the end of the plug-on unit containing the neutral connector must be mounted. Each bracket includes a 30.degree. angle on the outermost end of the bracket which slopes inwardly toward the side of the enclosure in direction from top to bottom of the bracket so that the mounting of the plug-on units can only be accomplished in one manner. This manner requires the neutral connector end of the plug-on unit to be inserted at approximately the 30.degree. angle of the brackets onto the top surface of the one support and then pivoted until the breaker jaws mount on the bus bar and the other end of the plug-on unit rests upon the top surface of the other support. Therefore, the neutral connector which is on the pivoted end of the plug-on unit, is plugged into the jaw of the ground assembly a predetermined distance prior to the circuit being energized.
