摘要： A pit prop has a floor-engaging foot, at least one arm pivoted at the rear of this foot and extending forwardly, a roof-engaging shield carried at the front end of this arm, and at least one ram extending vertically between the arm and the foot for pressing the shield against the roof and the foot against the floor. A hydraulic ram has its rear end pivoted at the rear end of the foot and its front end pivoted on the rear end of a rigid link whose front end in turn is pivoted on the face conveyor. The rear end of this link is slidable in and pivoted on the foot. A second link has its front end pivoted on the rear end of the main link and its rear end bearing vertically down against the foot but slidable therealong. A short lifting ram has its rear end pivoted on the rear end of the second link and its front end pivoted on the rear end of the main link above the pivot for the other displacement ram pivoted on this link. Thus expansion of this lifting ram raises the front end of the foot of the pit prop off the floor.

摘要： The invention is concerned with a self-advancing mine roof support comprising a base, hydraulically extensible prop means mounted on said base and a roof-engaging structure, including a canopy, mounted on said prop means for application thereby to a roof to be supported. On at least one side of the roof support there is a laterally extensible and retractable auxiliary canopy and a device is provided for urging and extending said auxiliary canopy laterally outwardly with respect to the support. The auxiliary canopy on the support bears firmly against a similar auxiliary canopy on an abutment on a neighboring roof support so as to prevent roof material falling between the two supports. Because it is retractable, however, the auxiliary canopy does not interfere with the advance of the supports. Conveniently the auxiliary canopy comprises two box-like members fitted telescopically one within the other. The device for urging and extending the auxiliary canopy laterally may be a pressure-fluid ram, and valve means controlling the pressure-fluid flow of said ram may be incorporated in the pressure-fluid system of a pressure-fluid advancing means for the support so that said ram is automatically retracted or put on open circuit before said advancing means becomes operative to advance the support.

The portable temporary roof support has a plurality of piston cylinder devices that are connected by conduits to a source of fluid under pressure on the continuous mining machine. Fluid under pressure from the mining machine first extends the temporary roof support laterally to a location adjacent the entry ribs and thereafter extends the vertical portions of the temporary roof support into abutting relation with the mine roof and the mine floor to support the unsupported portion of the mine roof.

Each of the support members has an underside, a first end portion facing towards and a second end portion facing away from the mine face. A shield arrangement is mounted on the second end portions and extends upwardly thereof for supporting the mine roof. An extension arrangement is connectable to the first end portions of the support members with limited freedom of pivoting movement in vertical direction, and includes a ground plate extending to all of the support members and inclined relative to the undersides thereof, and terminal portions which rise upwardly towards the mine face in the region of the free ends of the first end portions of the support members.

Each assembly has a number of extendible hydraulic props mounted between a floor sill and a roof cap. At the stowage side of the assembly there is provided a stowage shield composed of relatively pivotable components at least one of which has a U-shaped crosssection. The shield components are connected to a system of levers which control the movement of the components when the props are extended or retracted so as to continuously screen off the stowage zone from the assembly.
