    • A gas insulated transmission line includes an outer sheath, an inner condor within the outer sheath, insulating supports supporting the inner conductor within the outer sheath, and an insulating gas electrically insulating the inner conductor from the outer sheath. An apertured particle trapping ring is disposed within the outer sheath, and the trapping ring has a pair of dielectric members secured at each longitudinal end thereof, with the dielectric members extending outwardly from the trapping ring along an arc. A support sheet having an adhesive coating thereon is secured to the trapping ring and disposed on the outer sheath within the low field region formed between the trapping ring and the outer sheath. A conditioning method used to condition the transmission line prior to activation in service comprises applying an AC voltage to the inner conductor in a plurality of voltage-time steps, with the voltage-time steps increasing in voltage magnitude while decreasing in time duration.

    • A three phase gas pipe cable is disclosed which has at least one gas pipe cable section in which three phase conductors are arranged in a triangular configuration within an enclosing pipe. Each phase conductor is supported by at least one supporting insulator such that the longitudinal axis of each phase conductor is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the enclosing pipe. The supporting insulator is connected by a slide bearing member to the enclosing pipe. The slide bearing member accommodates an insulator foot end of the supporting insulator in such a manner that the supporting insulator is capable of motion in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the enclosing pipe. When the phase conductors linearly expand as a result of differential heating of the phase conductors, each phase conductor is free to expand in the longitudinal direction thereby moving the supporting insulator associated with each individual phase conductor a corresponding amount in the axial direction with no detrimental mechanical effects to any part of the gas pipe cable. A single compensator for each phase conductor in each gas pipe cable section is sufficient to absorb the thermal expansion of each phase conductor.

    • An inner conductor for a gas filled high voltage cable is constructed from plural elements arranged on a carrier tube in one or several layers. The conductive elements are either stranded around the carrier while remaining spaced from each other so that they can deform azimuthally in a wave-like pattern whenever their temperature increases, or alternatively, the conductor elements remain unstranded and are already contoured in a wave-like pattern whose amplitude excursion increases with temperature. In either case, length extensions of the elements are taken up by the wave pattern and do not cause overall length extensions of the conductor assembly as a whole.

    • A support insulator disk for a flexible high voltage transmission line supports a flexible central conductor along the central axis of a conductive outer housing which is transversely corrugated for flexibility. A plurality of such axially spaced disks are provided along the axis of the transmission line. Each disk consists of identical halves which are snapped together over the central conductor by identical snap latch pairs on the opposite sides of the halves. Each latch pair consists of an extending flexible member centrally located on the outer rim of the disk, and which overlies the other half and snaps into a depression in the other half. A direct line-of-sight is prevented from the central conductor to the outer conductive enclosure at the joint between the two halves of the insulator.

    • A voltage transformer for an insulated high-voltage switching apparatus of the type including a metallic outer tubular casing in which an electrical conductor is disposed, and a tubular sleeve disposed about the conductor within the casing. The sleeve forms both a surface type electrode and in conjunction with the electrical conductor of the apparatus, a high potential capacitor. The improvement of the invention comprises a coupling arrangement, fabricated of electrical insulation material, which is fastened at one end of the tubular sleeve and is coupled to the casing of the apparatus. A support arrangement, also fabricated of electrical insulation material, is fastened at the other end of the tubular sleeve and disposed in engagement with the inner surface of the apparatus casing. The coupling and support arrangements function in conjunction with each other to support the tubular sleeve in the apparatus casing about the electrical conductor.

    • An improved voltage transformer for use in a gas insulated or liquid insulated high voltage switching installation enclosed within a metal encapsulation and carrying several conductors, in which each conductor is surrounded by a tube which is conductive at least on its surface which faces the conductor with the tubes connected to each other through attachment means which attach them in an insulated manner to the metal encapsulation. The resulting arrangement causes each tube together with the conductor within it to form a high potential capacitor which can be coupled in series with a low potential capacitor to form a voltage divider with the voltage taken off the low potential capacitor and used to provide an indication of the voltage present on the conductor. Tubes which are plastic with conductive coatings and metal tubes are disclosed with the tubes fastened to at least one support disk of insulating material which is then attached to the metal encapsulation.
