    • A novel on-board diagnostics (OBD) protocol interpreter and conversion system is capable of dynamically decoding commonly-known standard OBD formats as well as esoterically-customized and/or non-standard OBD formats that are initially unrecognized by a generic OBD data reader unit. The novel OBD protocol interpreter and conversion system includes an OBD protocol converter (OPC) unit that can be plugged to a vehicle OBD unit for seamlessly converting any types of standard and non-standard OBD formats to an OBD format compatible for real-time remote vehicle monitoring. For the esoterically-customized and/or non-standard OBD formats that cannot be decoded within the OPC alone, an unknown OBD protocol analysis module and a new OBD protocol interpreter development unit that are located remotely outside the vehicle can create installable new OBD interpreter codes, and update the OPC's OBD library and decoding units accordingly to enable seamless decoding of the esoterically-customized and/or non-standard OBD formats.

    • A food source information transferring system for a livestock meat-packing facility and a related method are disclosed. In one embodiment, the food source information transferring system is capable of reading tag-identifying information in a hook RFID tag incorporated in a hook that can be hung on a hook machine. An animal carcass attached to the hook then undergoes meat chopping, cutting, and/or packing operations in the meat-packing facility. For each meat package produced, a data set associated with the tag-identifying information in the hook RFID tag can be paired with a data set associated with a meat package label attached to the meat package. This dynamic and robust data association between the hook RFID tag and the meat package label enables a food source information database in the food source information transferring system to preserve and trace detailed food source information at various levels of meat production and processing.

    • One or more systems and methods for edge-adaptive and recursive non-linear filtering of ringing effect on image or video data are disclosed in accordance with various embodiments of the invention. In one embodiment of the invention, a method for edge-adaptive and recursive non-linear filtering of ringing effect first involves detecting all edges within a process area of an image, including a direction of an edge slope and a value of an edge signal level. Then, if the process area is determined to be a “non-busy” area based on a “busyness” measure relative to empirically-defined threshold values, then an edge influence function subsequently determines whether to apply a de-ringing filter to a current pixel within the process area or not. Preferably, the de-ringing filter is edge-adaptive, non-linear, and recursive. The de-ringing filter can adjust the current pixel multiple times based on filter angles, adjacent pixels, and pixel transition levels.
