    • A power breaker includes a switching contact arrangement having a current loop in order to allow a force dependent on the current to act on the contact members. For this purpose, sections, which are arranged parallel to one another and such that they are arched and concentric, are arranged on a stationary current conductor and on a contact lever. Depending on the position of a center of a resultant force, originating from the arched sections, in relation to a pivot bearing of the contact lever, a torque acts on the contact lever causing the switching contact arrangement to open or close. Using largely identical parts, power breakers which have a current-limiting or contact-force-increasing action can thus be produced.

    • A circuit breaker includes a housing having first and second openings, with stationary and movable separable contacts disposed therein. An operating mechanism is disposed in the housing, is coupled to the separable contacts and is structured to move those contacts between open and closed positions. A trip mechanism is disposed in the housing and cooperates with the operating mechanism to trip open the separable contacts. A slot motor assembly is disposed about the separable contacts and has upper and lower slot motor portions. The upper slot motor portion is disposed above the movable contact and the lower slot motor portion is disposed below the stationary contact. The upper slot motor portion includes a rigid, laminated steel member having a general U-shape, with a bight portion, and first and second legs. The first and second legs engage the housing at the respective first and second openings.

    • A capacitance of a capacitor member, which varies according to a dynamic force such as an acceleration force imposed on the capacitor member, is detected by a detecting circuit. The detecting circuit is composed of an operational amplifier and a switched capacitor circuit connected in parallel to each other. A reset time (t), during which a feedback capacitor in the switched capacitor circuit is discharged, is set to satisfy the following formula: t>(ΔC+m)/n, where ΔC is an initial capacitance of the capacitor member, and n and m are constant factors having values in certain ranges. By setting the reset time (t) according to the above formula, an amount of acceleration imposed on the capacitor member is accurately detected even when the capacitor member has a certain level of the initial capacitance.

    • An electrical circuit breaker includes a moveable contact piece connected to an actuating means and provided with a contact face arranged to make contact with a contact face of a second contact piece by movement of the moveable contact piece generally in a first direction. The circuit breaker further includes an electrical connector for conveying current to the moveable contact piece which includes at least two adjacent limbs adapted to convey the current in opposing directions so as to generate an electromagnetic force repelling the adjacent limbs from one another, which force is used to assist in maintaining the contact faces in abutment. The outermost limbs bear, respectively, upon a reaction end face of the actuating means and the moveable contact piece, and the moveable contact piece is connected to the actuating means by a connecting rod displaceable relative to the actuating means and biased in the first direction so as to form a snatch gap between the actuating means and the connecting rod when the first and second contact pieces are closed, the electromagnetic force thereby assisting in accelerating closure of the snatch gap during a contact opening operation.

    • An electromagnetic actuator and an automatic recloser incorporating such actuator are disclosed. The actuator is shown to include a housing, a permanent magnet member, a coil, an armature, mounted to move axially within the housing between first and second positions, and a non-magnetic spacer. The armature, when in the second position, is spaced a distance from the housing by the spacer. The spacer is mounted to stop movement of the armature in the second position. In the preferred embodiment, the permanent magnet member includes a core and a number of magnet segments attached thereto. It is especially preferred for each of the permanent magnet segments to be arcuate shaped and that each segment be polarized substantially radially or in a direction parallel to the center radius of each segment. In a preferred embodiment, the housing is formed from a material having a high permeability and the spacer is formed from material having a relative permeability close to one or from a substantially non-magnetic material, such as acetal resin.The circuit recloser is shown to include the bistable magnetic actuator, a contact switch, a connecting member, connected between the actuator the contact switch and a spring, connected to bias the connecting member in relation to the contact switch. When the actuator is in its second position the end of the connecting member is spaced from the end of the contact switch, i.e., over travel is present. An indicator is provided for indicating whether the contact switch is open or closed.
