    • The present invention relates to a process for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion comprising: preparing a dispersant co-polymer of a monomer mixture (M) by polymerising the monomer mixture (M) in a reaction medium which is substantially free from organic solvents and/or substantially free from monomers which are not soluble in water, the monomer mixture (M) comprises at least one cationic vinyl monomer (m3) and at least one monomer (m4) which is tetrahydrofurfuryl acrylate, tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate, or a monomer of the general formula (I): wherein R1 is hydrogen or methyl, R2 is hydrogen or C1-C2 alkyl, R3 is hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, phenyl, or benzyl, n=1 to 4, and x=1 to 50, and then, polymerising one or more water-soluble monomers (m) in an aqueous solution of a salt in the presence of the obtained dispersant polymer. The invention also relates to an aqueous polymer dispersion, use of the dispersion and a process for the production of paper.

    • The invention relates to a redispersible powder obtainable by (co)polymerization, using a polymer with cationic functionality in an aqueous medium, optionally accompanied by the use of conventional additives, the polymer with cationic functionality being obtained by (co)polymerization in an aqueous medium of olefinically unsaturated (co)monomers, wherein at least one (co)monomer has a cationic functionality, further (co)monomers are added and polymerization takes place in the presence of suitable initiators, and by drying the aqueous dispersion obtained, the (co)polymerizate having one or more reactive groups. According to another embodiment, the polymer with cationic functionality is formed in situ in the presence of a seed. According to another embodiment, the process is controlled in such a way that a (co)polymerizate particle with heterogeneous morphology is formed. The invention also relates to the aqueous dispersions, a process for the preparation of the redispersible powder and the use thereof.

    • The present invention is directed to a dispersion of polymer particles in a dispersing medium. The polymer particles each contain an average of more than two living radicals that are not chemically protected. The present invention is also directed to a free radical precipitation process involving combining at least one monomer in at least one solvent; dispersing said monomer solvent mixture in a dispersing medium that is non-miscible with the first solvent, using a surfactant, stabilizer or mixture thereof; initiating polymerization with at least one free-radical generating agent and conversion, to produce polymer particles containing radicals trapped by precipitation by virtue of being above the lower critical solution temperature of the system; and removing the precipitating agent either during or after free-radical generation to form a dispersion polymer in the dispersing medium having living, trapped radicals.
