    • A pickup assembly is used with a string instrument having a plurality of strings and an elongated fingerboard against which the strings can be stopped, a bow having a filament adapted to be drawn across the strings, and a frequency synthesizer. The assembly is composed of a pickup on the fingerboard for detecting which strings are stopped, where therealong, and for generating an output corresponding thereto, a pickup connected to the bow for detecting action thereof for generating an output corresponding thereto, and a pickup connected to the strings for detecting which string is being contacted by the bow and for generating an output corresponding thereof. These resultant, mainly analog signals are then fed to a processor that is connected to all of the pickup for receiving the outputs thereof, digitizing these outputs, and feeding the digitized outputs to the synthesizer.

    • A musical instrument with a plurality of vibratile tone generators, whose oscillations are converted into alternating currents by electroacoustic transducers, is provided with a control circuit feeding back a regenerative vibratory signal of progressively diminishing amplitude to maintain the oscillations of a previously activated tone generator for a selected fade-out period. The duration of the fade-out period can be controlled by the player, e.g. with the aid of a pedal, by varying the time constant of a peak-storage network connected to the feedback loop. The feedback signal may be transmitted to the respective tone generator by a mechanical vibrator attached to the instrument body or by sound waves emitted from a loudspeaker. The player may also switch from the output of the peak-storage network to a constant control signal for sustained reverberation.

    • An electronic percussion synthesizer is disclosed which includes a plurality of pressure transducers, each representing a different percussive musical instrument. Each transducer is responsive to an external striking force for generating analog pulses, each pulse representing one beat of the respective musical instrument. The transducers are mounted to a synthesizer housing in a manner which mechanically isolates the transducers from each other. Sound signal generating circuits are provided which are responsive to the analog pulses for generating sound signals comprising the beat of the respective musical instrument. The amplitude of the signal representing each beat is proportional to the magnitude of the force used to generate the respective analog pulse. The synthesizer also includes storage and playback circuitry for digitally storing a series of pulses, each pulse representing a percussive beat; for playing back the stored pulses; and for storing additional pulses in an interleaving manner.
