    • An isolation circuit is disclosed for isolating ground interference from a wideband transmission signal. The ground isolation circuit of the present invention is constructed using a pair of matched mixer circuits, each of which receives a carrier signal from the same oscillator circuit. The first mixer circuit also receives the baseband signal input after appropriate conditioning, and modulates the baseband signal onto the carrier signal. In the preferred embodiment, the carrier signal has a predetermined frequency which is at least two times the frequency of the baseband signal. The modulated signal (which preferably comprises an rf signal) is transmitted via an rf transmission line to the second mixer, which demodulates the rf signal to recover the baseband signal. Each port of the mixer circuits connects to an isolation transformer to insure isolation from ground interference.

    • A vehicle passenger information system, for example an inflight entertainment system, has a combination of improvements for reducing electromagnetic interference ("EMI") and electrostatic discharge ("ESD"). A microprocessor based system controller has a system controller chassis with a first conductive EMI shield layer, a low impedance aircraft chassis ground path directly electrically connected to the shield layer and to controller components. Additionally, a display unit has a chassis with a second conductive EMI shield layer enclosing a plurality of PCBs directly electrically connected to the shield layer. The display unit supports are grounded through a plurality of system connectors penetrating the display chassis and a low impedance display unit ground path directly electrically connects the two shield layers. A method of decreasing the EMI and ESD susceptibility of, and the levels of radiated EMI from, a vehicle entertainment system is also provided.

    • A system for noise canceling using a single return conductor. The system employs a first unit, a full duplex communications path coupled to the first unit, and a second unit coupled to the first unit via the full duplex communications path. The full duplex communications path employs at least three conductors: a forward signal carrying conductor; a reverse signal carrying conductor; and a single return conductor. In order to perform noise canceling, the first unit may employ, for example, a first adder coupled to the reverse signal carrying conductor, and a first canceling impedance coupled between the single return conductor and a first unit ground. Similarly, the second unit 12 may employ a second adder coupled to the forward signal carrying conductor, and a second canceling impedance coupled between the single return conductor and a second unit ground.

    • The severity of the problems of transmitting high speed data over a regular twisted wire pair are legendary. These problems arise from a variety of conditions, including the capacitance of the wire (which increases with length) and the propensity of unshielded wire to pickup high induced voltages. An arrangement is disclosed that is suitable for short, as well as long, wire distances and which also effectively eliminates the interference problem caused by induced voltages, including those causes by electrostatic discharge. This arrangement passes two twisted wire pairs through a series of ferrite cores. The twisted wire pairs coming out of the ferrite cores are terminated such that one of the pairs is connected to ground while the signal carrying twisted pair is connected to a small signal balun coil, pulse shaping circuit and low pass filter.
