    • An electrode steam boiler includes a water-receiving shell and water-heating electrodes supported in the shell so as to be partially immersed in the water to be heated. The boiler also has first and second water-handling means arranged, respectively, for supplying feed water to, and withdrawing water from, the boiler shell, and a current responsive means responsive to the current flowing in one of the electrodes for actuating the two water-handling means. Finally, the boiler has means for monitoring the number of actuations in a pre-set period of at least one of the two water-handling means, and means responsive to this monitoring means for actuating a safety means when this number of actuations in a pre-set period of at least one of the water-handling means exceeds a predetermined value. The safety means may take the form of an audible and/or visual alarm or a device for shutting down the boiler.

    • The present invention relates to a method of and a device for effecting electroslag remelting processes.While effecting an electroslag remelting process by the proposed method an electrode is dipped into a slag bath. Electric current is passed through the electrode and slag bath, heating the slag to a melting point of said electrode. Upon establishing the molten slag bath and a metal pool said electrode is shielded by lowering on the surface of the molten slag bath a disc with an opening for the passage of said electrode so that the disc will float in the slag without coming in contact with the metal pool. A device for effecting electroslag remelting processes, comprising a baseplate mounting a means for effecting an electro slag remelting process accommodating a slag bath and an electrode that is dipped thereinto and is encompassed with a protective shield made as a disc of material whose specific density is lower than that of the slag of said slag bath. The disc is arranged directly on the surface of the slag bath, overlapping essentially all its surface area.

    • A steam heated cooking pan comprises in combination a double-mantled food preparation vessel arranged above a steam generator which includes an outer vessel and an open bottom inner vessel enclosed in the outer vessel and in which are disposed steam generating electrodes. A steam exhaust opening is provided at the upper end of the inner vessel for supplying steam to the double-mantled vessel. Steam generation is automatically controlled by a movable cover opening and closing the steam exhaust opening in response to steam pressure sensed by a pressure sensitive member arranged below the outer vessel and coupled to the cover by an actuating rod passing through a tube secured to the bottom of the outer vessel and extending upwardly to the opening. The tube communicates the pressure sensitive member with the inner vessel and prevents contact between the water in the steam generator and the pressure sensitive member and actuating rod thereby preventing deposition of time thereon.

    • An electric water heater that includes a metallic housing having a water inlet and outlet, and a non-electrically conducting liner that is impervious to the action of water. First and second carbon electrodes, each in the form of a plate wedge-shaped in cross-section and having an obliquely disposed flat surface, are arranged within the liner with their respective obliques flat surfaces in parallel spaced relation to define a water passage therebetween. Manually operable means permit the second electrode to be moved relative to the first electrode to vary the width of a water passage defined between the electrodes. The housing supports first and second electric terminals that are insulated from one another, but are in electrical communication with the first and second electrodes. The degree to which water will be heated is dependent on the velocity at which the water flows through the passage between the first and second electrodes, and this velocity being determined by varying the width of the passage between the electrodes by use of the previously mentioned manually operated means.
