    • A coating material is applied to drawn lightguide fiber in a manner which substantially prevents the inclusion of bubbles and which causes the fiber to be disposed substantially concentrically within the coating layer. The lightguide fiber is advanced through a continuum of coating material, which extends from a free surface of a reservoir and through first and second dies that are arranged in tandem, at a velocity which causes air to be entrained in the coating material. A pressure gradient is established between portions of the first die adjacent to its exit orifice. The first die communicates with the reservoir and is spaced from the second die to provide a chamber which communicates with a pressurized supply of the coating material. The pressurized flow sufficiently enhances the pressure gradient in the first die and establishes sufficient volumetric flow of coating material upwardly through the first die to cause any bubbles in the coating material on the advancing fiber to be removed by recirculating streamlines and to be moved upwardly into the reservoir. Not only is the coating in the fiber substantially free of entrained air as it leaves the second die, but the fiber is disposed concentrically within the coating because of a precentering effect of the first die and enhanced self-centering caused by pressure in the chamber.

    • A system of applying glue or like liquid to a continuous web comprising a frame with a reservoir. A reservoir which is capable of being sealed tightly between uses in order to stop the drying process of glue, for example: a user of the apparatus may at any given time activate the use of the glue applicator by simply removing the cover of the reservoir, placing the dispensing reel bracket and the dispensing reel into its proper lace above the reservoir. A supply reel of unsaturated material has a wound web of the material attached, which is mounted generally above the reservoir in a rotational fashion. A guide roller module is disposed within the reservoir. The rollers outer perimeter is submerged within one quarter inch from the bottom of the reservoir. This enables the tape to be submerged to the extreme bottom of the glue reservoir and gives full usage of all liquid stored within the reservoir. The guide roller module guides the dispensed web of tape material from the supply reel down into the reservoir and then upward towards the dispensing reel. The dispensing reel is removably attached to the frame of the overall apparatus and is in position for receiving the web. The dispensing reel provides a means for advancing the web from the supply reel onto the dispensing reel for subsequent dispensing.

    • A plant for producing enameled wire using an inline process has, placed in order a wire pay-off system, a wire drawer, an annealer, an enameled dope coater, an enamel processing unit and an enameled wire take-up unit. The annealer and the dope coater are placed together in a single oven housing, which has a drying space, a curing space and a return shaft in which a circulating air blower, a heating unit and a catalyst are placed. The blower is responsible for producing a heated air current moving through the heating unit of the annealer and through the catalyst, the air current furthermore moving in the opposite direction to the direction of the wire through the curing space and the drying space. The wire makes its way through an annealing tube and the return shaft into waste gas pipe joined therewith and through a wire cooler, which is full of inert atmosphere as produced by a unit. After coming out of the wire cooler the wire is moved into the enamel dope coater from which it makes its way into the drying space and the curing space, it coming out of the curing space through a wire outlet and then makes its way into a wire cooler which is right next to the oven housing. From the wire cooler the wire makes its way to the wire take-up system, after being run through plant a number of times. The cooling air for the wire cooler is preheated by a heat exchanger before going into the curing space under gage pressure. Control of air circulation is undertaken by adjustment of the speed of the blower and adjustment of the door, while the temperatures for drying and baking are controlled by the waste gas door.

    • A method and apparatus for coating both sides of a moving web, such as a paper web, with the same coating material on both sides by feeding the web downwardly between a rotating support roller and a coating blade directed against said roller. One side of the web is partially wrapped around said roller and a first excess of coating material intended for the web side facing said roller is applied to the roller before or at the point of contact between said web and the roller. A second excess of coating material is applied to the other side of the web by feeding the web through a dam of coating material arranged below said contact point--in the moving direction of the web--said dam being formed substantially between said coating blade and holder and the said other side of the web. The excess coating material is laterally expressed in said dam beneath the top level thereof.

    • This invention relates to an improved prepasted wallpaper trough assembly having a thin walled polystyrene tray with a horizontal bar. The bar is engaged in place in the tray by forcing the ends of the bar downward into channels formed in the ends of the tray. The width of the bar is slightly larger than the width of the channels and therefore the channels resiliently engage the ends of the bar. Thus, the "memory" factor of the plastic which, when deformed attempts to return to its original shape holds the bar in place during the wallpapering operation. The assembly is simple and its shape enables it to be made extremely economically by vacuum forming.

    • A filiform workpiece such as a metal wire is advanced at high speed, after passage through several pretreatment baths, in a vertically upward direction through a closed-ended nozzle of a crucible by way of a lower inlet aperture and an upper outlet aperture of that nozzle which is completely filled with a thermally fusible coating material (e.g. zinc). A short residence time of less than 5.multidot.10.sup.-2 second for any given point of the workpiece in the molten mass holds down the temperature of the workpiece and results in rapid hardening of the coating material upon emergence from the bath.
