    • A highly reliable early warning system that can provide efficient detection of railway activity and early warning of dangerous railway conditions to train operators and to central dispatch control offices. The warning system has an acoustic sensor circuit coupled to the railway for detecting sound waves resulting from physical vibrations thereon, an acoustic analyzer unit for analyzing the sound waves detected on the railway to identify any suspect conditions thereon and to generate an alarm if such a suspect condition is identified, and an acoustic signal processing unit for storing detected sound waves in a sound file for quick retrieval and analysis. The alarm signal may be transmitted over any communications system to the central control office and to trains traveling on the dangerous track. The stored sound files may be locally retrieved or downloaded to a remote location over a cellular system, thus enabling the analysis of the actual sound generated by the dangerous condition to determine the cause therefore.

    • The electromagnetic induction ground vehicle levitation guideway includes a beam support member, and a transverse structural slab member mounted on top of the beam support member. The structural slab member includes top and bottom structural plates mounted to the top and bottom surface of the structural slab member. The guideway includes vertical lift, lateral stability, and linear synchronous motor coils with a null flux geometry in the guideway that interact with superconducting magnets of the vehicle, allowing the vehicle to safely reach speeds of up to 350 mph with relatively low power consumption. A kinetic energy absorption structure is provided on the guideway that is capable of high speed mechanical braking of the vehicle if the superconducting magnets of the vehicle fail. A sloped top protective cover over the energy absorption means is provided to minimize adhesion and buildup of snow and ice, and extends over the sides of the guideway. Sensors are also mounted to the guideway for detecting the presence of heavy objects contacting the guideway, and for determining the location and speed of the vehicle.

    • A conveyor system has a track network including a main track, a plurality of branch tracks, and respective intersections at which the main track joins the branch tracks. Respective stations at the branch tracks are each associated with a respective target code. A plurality of trucks displaceable along the track network are shuntable by switches at the intersections from the main track into the branch tracks. Each truck is provided with an array of elements settable to correspond to any of the target codes and respective target-code readers associated with the switches read the target codes of the trucks. Controllers connected between the readers and the respective switches direct the trucks to the stations corresponding to the target codes of the trucks. A monitoring system comprises a permanent identification code on each of the trucks associated with the respective truck and not with the station to which the truck is addressed and identification-code readers along the track network responsive to the identification codes on the trucks. A central computer connected to the readers is responsive to the identification-code readers for monitoring positions of the trucks along the track network. An encoder connected to the central computer is disposed along the network for, in response to the central computer, reprogramming a target code of selected trucks passing the encoder.

    • A transportation system for moving passengers comprising a plurality of terminals interconnected by a track network, upon which are supported a plurality of independent and individual self-guided vehicles. Each terminal has a plurality of Automated Ticketing machines (ATMs) for automated bank account or credit line debiting and for producing passenger tickets with coded destination information. Each vehicle has a body for carrying up to two passengers, wheels for supporting and moving the vehicle, driving and braking means, a wireless data link, and a Vehicle Control and Data Processing Computer (VCDPC). Each VCDPC reads the coded destination information on a passengr's ticket, computes a travel route, controls the driving and braking means, and stores operating data. Each vehicle also has mounted thereto an Identification and scanning Device (ISD), carrying vehicle identity information and operating under the control of the VCDPC. Other ISDs are positioned at a number of fixed locations in the track network and carry unique location identity information. Vehicle mounted ISDs are capable of detecting and reading the ISDs at each fixed location when in close proximity thereto, thereby providing vehicle location and direction of movement information to the VCDPC. A Master Contorl and Data Processing Computer (MCDPC), location at a fixed fixed, has a wireless data link to access all VCDPCs to obtain the travel route and current location of each vehicle and to issue vehicle commands. The MCDPC is also interconnected with each ISD at a fixed location in the track network in order to obtain backup data revealing the location of all vehicles. The MCDPC is also interconnected with each ATM at each terminal to obtain passenger travel demand data, to computer an optimal travel route for all vehicles in use, and to route vehicles that are not currently is use to terminals having higher passenger demand.

    • My conveyor comprises an associated track-bound car including a drive motor supplied with drive current by current-carrying rails, a container, and a cover for the conveyor, as well as a track on which the conveyor runs by a plurality of stations. In order to prevent unauthorized opening of the cover a latch of a locking mechanism mounted in the track-bound car is restrained in a locked configuration. The latch can be unlocked by an electromagnetic unlocking mechanism mounted in the track-bound car. A very simple control of the unlocking mechanism can be provided, when, at a position or station in the conveyor where it is to be unlocked, an unlocking signal generator is present, which is automatically connectable with the track-bound car, in order to supply the unlocking mechanism with a required unlocking current.

    • A block control system for wheeled, track-mounted vehicles each having a driving motor energized from power conductor rails extending parallel to the track through collector shoes mounted on the vehicle. A track layout is provided with two or more successive traffic control blocks each having a signalling section of conductor bar electrically connected to a blocking section of conductor bar in the next trailing block. The signalling and blocking conductor bar sections are engageable respectively by separate signalling and blocking contact shoes carried by each vehicle. A block control relay on each vehicle includes a contact in series with the vehicle driving motor control circuit, and the operational state of this relay is controlled by a circuit which is established through the signalling and blocking contact shoes and the conductor bar sections engaged thereby and which applies a blocking signal to the relay of a vehicle in a trailing block in response to the presence of a vehicle in a leading block. Alternative constructions are disclosed for stopping the vehicle in response to energization or to de-energization of the relay, and for controlling the relay by trackside-mounted circuits.
