    • Apparatus and method for dyeing carpets and the like in random patterns and multiple colors. Dye is applied in liquid streams from troughs having rollers and doctor blade scrapers. The troughs are arranged in pairs along the path of carpet movement, one trough in each pair being above the other trough of the pair. Dye streams from the pairs of troughs are broken up into droplets before contacting the carpet in such a way as to prevent substantial mixing of the streams prior to contact with the carpet. The particular arrangement of the trough pairs and dye streams results in a dyed carpet of high quality at a substantial savings in equipment cost and quantity of dye used.

    • In a suction device for removing liquids from textile fabrics, there is provided a tubular body that is adapted to be connected to a suction unit. The tubular body has at least two longitudinal angularly spaced apart passages through the wall thereof. At least three sectors are attached to the outer surface of the body in order to define, with their respective, opposed edges, at least two longitudinal slots that are in registration with the passages in a tubular body. A roller is positioned intermediate the slots and tangentially to the body for advancing the fabric past the slots. A shower head may be provided for ejecting a fabric treating liquid.

    • Continuous, random dyeing apparatus for carpet or the like comprising a plurality of elongate drums mounted for rotation on parallel, spaced axes, each drum having a plurality of cavities extending partially thereinto from the outer surface thereof, wiper means engaging the outer surface on one side of each drum, along a line parallel to the axis thereof, means for rotating the drums in a direction such that the one sides thereof move downwardy, and means for conducting a dyeing liquid to the intersections between each drum and its associated wiper means. The liquid fills the cavities in the drums, on the one sides thereof, as the drums rotate and the liquid in the cavities passes below the wiper means and is dispensed below the drum onto a carpet moving therebelow.

    • Apparatus for treating textile materials particularly in the form of slivers or rovings of cellulosic materials and the like with a liquid while not under tension. The preferred apparatus consists of a long, narrow, and deep treatment enclosure into which the slivers are fed by a roller feed mechanism which also incorporates a spray device for impregnating the slivers passing therethrough with a treating liquid. The feed device lays the slivers into the enclosure in folds laid along the length of the enclosure as the feed device moves back and forth along the enclosure's length. The treatment enclosure preferably curves into a horizontal section having a drain at the bottom for drawing off the excess treating liquid. The interior of the treatment enclosure is formed of a relatively frictionless material to facilitate the sinking of the treated material continuously from the vertical through the curved section to the short horizontal section, from which latter the sliver is then drawn out of the enclosure by a take up device formed of two identical motor driven ridged rollers (first passing through driven wringing rollers, which latter extract more of the treating liquid). From there the treated sliver is preferably laid on a conveyor passing through a conventional oven.
