    • In production of chloroprene by dehydrochlorinating 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 in the presence of an aqueous solution of alkali, the mixture of 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 and the aqueous solution of alkali is heated at 85.degree. to 100.degree. C to evaporate a mixture consisting mainly of the resulting chloroprene, unreacted 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 and water rapidly, the evaporated mixture is taken out from the reaction system without subjecting to a distillation and totally condensed, the condensed reaction mixture is separated into an aqueous phase and an organic phase and then the organic phase is fractionally distilled to separate chloroprene from 3,4-dichlorobutene-1. Prior to subjecting the organic phase to the fractional distillation, if the organic phase is previously subjected to a drying means and the water content in the organic phase is reduced to a proper degree, it is possible to avoid formation of polymer of the resulting chloroprene and corrosion of the distillation column.

    • A touch panel device is provided which, even in cases in which a plurality of GUI parts are arranged in a limited space, enables operation of a GUI part in which, unlike a physical button, it is hard to distinguish the boundary by touch, without operational error, using a finger with a very large contact area in comparison to a touch pen. A touch panel device includes a rectangular screen having a detection region which detects contact, and a control section for generating a control signal in response to the contact detected by the detection region. The detection region has a shape that is inclined with respect to a side edge of the rectangular screen. In cases in which a body-part used for the contact is a finger of a user; when the user uses the right hand, the detection region has a shape that is inclined to the left side with respect to the side edge of the rectangular screen; and when the user uses the left hand, the detection region has a shape that is inclined to the right side with respect to the side edge of the rectangular screen.

    • A pointer controlling apparatus, a control method, and a pointer controlling program are provided which can protect a button from erroneous operation without interrupting the operational flow or using excessive display area. The pointer controlling apparatus permits a pointer to move into a predetermined region after a predetermined period of time has elapsed from a point in time when the pointer comes into contact with a boundary line of the predetermined region. Accordingly, the predetermined area can be securely protected from a point in time at which the pointer comes into contact with the boundary line of the predetermined region for the predetermined amount of time. Furthermore, since the pointer is permitted to enter the predetermined region immediately after the predetermined time has elapsed, the predetermined region can be protected without interrupting the operational flow, and without using an excess of a display region.

    • In a network printing system utilizing WSD Print Service, a highly operable peripheral apparatus control system that utilizes a mass storage device and a low-cost shared printer that does not include a function for requesting print data to an information processing apparatus is provided. The peripheral apparatus control system includes an information processing apparatus and a peripheral apparatus mutually connected via a network. The information processing apparatus inputs a job request and a reservation request to the peripheral apparatus. The peripheral apparatus includes a first measurement unit that measures the difference between reception timings of the job request and the reservation request. If the difference between the reception timings is equal to or less than a first predetermined time, a reservation ID is input and a reservation of the job request is accepted.
