    • A motor vehicle fuel pump including an electric motor, a high pressure pump, and a low pressure pump having a side channel pumping stage for pumping fuel from a fuel tank to a reservoir and a regenerative turbine pumping stage for pumping fuel from the reservoir to the high pressure pump. A pair of radial vapor ports are disposed between an inside diameter of a pump channel of the turbine pumping stage and an outside diameter of a concentric, radially inboard pump channel of the side channel pumping stage at a discharge port of the pump channel of the side channel pumping stage. Liquid fuel with entrained vapor near the inside diameter of the pump channel of the turbine pumping stage is aspirated through the radial vapor ports into the discharge port of the pump channel of the side channel pumping stage by liquid fuel flowing in the pump channel of the side channel pumping stage.

    • An apparatus is described for transporting particulate material. A housing includes a wall defining an inlet and a wall defining an outlet spaced downstream from the outlet. A duct is enclosed in the housing between the inlet and outlet, the duct being formed between first and second substantially opposed drive walls moveable relative to the housing from the inlet toward the outlet and at least one arcuate wall extending between the inlet and the outlet. The drive walls have a greater surface area for contacting the solid material than the arcuate walls. The drive walls rotate relative to an axis. An assembly is provided for positioning the second drive wall in the housing for rotation in a plane at an angle relative to the axis such that the distance between the first and second drive walls adjacent the inlet is greater than the distance downstream from the inlet when the drive walls are moving.

    • An electrically operated fuel pump for automotive vehicles which utilizes a turbine pump rotor operating in an annular pumping channel having circumferentially spaced inlet and outlet ports. The pumping channel has opposed sides with a circumferential array of radially curved grooves axially opposed to the periphery of the impeller and extending radially inwardly from the impeller vanes. The pump has a main outlet leading to the engine to be supplied with fuel. A secondary outlet leads to a fuel jet positioned to direct fuel into a venturi passage to draw fuel from a pump inlet and discharge it into a reservoir in a main fuel tank, the pump being located in the reservoir. A biased valve in the secondary outlet opens when the pump outlet pressure reaches a predetermined pressure to insure adequate fuel flow to the engine upon cold start conditions before fuel is drawn by the jet and venturi and delivered to the reservoir.

The impeller and the housing part are arranged so that a radial gap between an outer surface of the impeller and an inner surface of the housing part at least in a peripheral region of the housing part in which the connection of the one feeding passage with the suction side is provided has such a size that a suction passage is formed through which the other feeding passage is also connected with the suction side of the flow pump. For limiting the suction passage in a peripheral direction near the suction passage, peripheral regions are arranged in which the radial gap is smaller.

    • A fuel pump has a motor with a shaft extending therefrom and an impeller fitted thereon for pumping fuel from a fuel tank to an internal combustion engine. A pumping chamber, which encases the impeller, is comprised of a cover channel and a bottom channel formed in a pump cover and a pump bottom, respectively. The impeller has a plurality of radially extending vanes on an outer circumference separated by partitions of shorter radial length. The partitions are comprised of quarter-circle shaped arcuate portions extending from the outer circumference of the impeller to a straight portion having parallel sides, which preferably extend approximately 0.1 millimeters to 0.5 millimeters, to a flat top with rounded corners. Fluid active vane grooves thus formed circumferentially between the vanes and axially between the partitions which reduce fuel vortices angular acceleration within the pumping chamber thus increasing pump efficiency.
