摘要： A encoding apparatus decomposes an original image into M (M is an integer and M>2) uniform subbands, and encodes the decomposed signals by using an embedded type entropy encoding method. A decoding apparatus receives the coded data encoded by the encoding apparatus, extracts N signals from the coded data from a low frequency component side in decomposed signals, decodes the N signals by using an entropy decoding method, and synthesizes the N decoded signals to obtain a decoded image of a resolution of N/M times (M and N are integers, and 1≦N≦M and M>2) that of an original image.

摘要： Predictive lossless coding provides effective lossless image compression of both photographic and graphics content in image and video media. Predictive lossless coding can operate on a macroblock basis for compatibility with existing image and video codecs. Predictive lossless coding chooses and applies one of multiple available differential pulse-code modulation (DPCM) modes to individual macro-blocks to produce DPCM residuals having a closer to optimal distribution for run-length, Golomb Rice RLGR entropy encoding. This permits effective lossless entropy encoding despite the differing characteristics of photographic and graphics image content.

If the code length of quasi image coded data is longer than the code length designated by a designated image coded data code length inputting unit 102, entropy coded values are deleted in the unit of sub-bands so that the code length of the quasi image code data equals the designated code length. If the code length of quasi image coded data is shorter than the designated code length, adjustment bits are added.

摘要： An entropy decoder receives a code sequence which is obtained by breaking up coefficients that have undergone discrete wavelet transformation into bit planes, and encoding the bit planes, and entropy-decodes the code sequence. A correction value computing unit determines correction values used to correct dequantized values in a dequantizer in accordance with the number of quantization indices decoded by the entropy decoder. The dequantizer receives the quantization indices decoded by the entropy decoder, and generates a series of coefficient sequences that represent an image by correcting and dequantizing the quantization indices on the basis of the values of the quantization indices and the correction values obtained by the correction value computing unit. A predetermined inverse discrete wavelet transformer restores an image by computing the inverse transforms of the coefficient sequences obtained by the dequantizer, and outputs the restored image to an image output unit.
