    • In one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device having a plurality of pixels includes a first substrate having an insulating substrate, a first detection element extending in a first direction above the insulating substrate, a second detection element extending in a second direction crossing the first direction and an insulating film provided between the first and second detection circuits. A second substrate is arranged opposing to the first substrate so as to hold a liquid crystal layer therebetween. A detection circuit is provided on the first substrate to detect change of electrostatic capacitance between the first and second detection elements. At least one of the first and second detection elements is an element required for operating the liquid crystal layer.

    • In one embodiment, a first substrate having a plurality of array regions is prepared. A seal material is formed in each of the array regions. A peripheral seal material is arranged outside the array regions extending in a first direction. The peripheral seal material has an exhaust opening provided at a portion of the peripheral seal material extending in a second direction. A dummy seal material is formed between the peripheral seal material extending in the first direction and the seal material formed in the array region. A second substrate is arranged on a surface of the first substrate in a jig. The inside of the jig is decompressed, and the atmosphere between the first and second substrates is exhausted while applying a pressure to the first and second substrates. Then, the first and second substrates are attached by curing the seal material, the peripheral seal material and the dummy seal material.

A first alignment pattern is formed in the counter electrode. The first alignment pattern faces the pixel electrode and extending in the first direction. A second alignment pattern is formed in the counter electrode. The second alignment pattern also faces the pixel electrode and extends in the second direction intersecting with the first alignment pattern. An expanding alignment portion is arranged at the intersecting portion of the first alignment pattern and the second alignment pattern. The first and second alignment patterns are formed of alignment slits or alignment protrusions arranged in the counter substrate.

    • In one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel having an active area for displaying images. The active area has pixels arranged in a matrix shape. The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate having pixel electrodes of the pixels, a second substrate having a plurality of colored layers arranged side by side, and a counter electrode arranged on the colored layers facing the respective pixel electrodes. A seal element is arranged on a seal portion surrounding the active area and attaching the first substrate and the second substrate. A liquid crystal layer is held between the first substrate and the second substrate. The second substrate includes a convex portion arranged between the seal element and the active area, and the convex portion is formed of the same material as one of the plurality of colored layers.
