    • A flat projection television comprising an imagine engine mounted adjacent a top of an enclosure and optically coupled to a collimator mirror, a flat mirror, a mirror assembly comprising a plurality of cylindrical mirrors, and a diffuser screen. The image engine includes a cylindrical lens which expands an outgoing image horizontally. The image engine projects the image downward from the top of the enclosure toward the bottom of the enclosure where the horizontally expanding image encounters the collimator mirror which collimates the expanding beam bringing the horizontal lines back into parallel with one another. The collimator mirror also reflects the collimated image towards the front of the enclosure where it encounters the flat mirror oriented to deflect the image upward into the mirror box location of the enclosure at an appropriate angle. As the image is projected from the flat mirror, it encounters the cylindrical mirrors of the mirror assembly which expand each horizontal line of the image to present a fully expanded and complete image on the diffuser screen.

    • Systems and methods are provided that facilitate detection and processing of A/V device power status in A/V networks. Preferably, a power detection system includes a current sensor coupled to the power cord of an A/V device, a current-to-voltage converter coupled to the sensor, a voltage comparator coupled to the converter, a reference voltage output circuit coupled to the comparator, and a micro-controller coupled to the comparator and the reference voltage output circuit. In operation, the current being drawn by the A/V device through its power cord is detected and converted to an input voltage, which is then compared to a device specific threshold voltage. If the input voltage is not greater than the threshold voltage, a “Power On” command is sent to the A/V device and the detection, conversion and comparison process is repeated. If the input voltage is greater than the threshold voltage, desired commands and/or instructions are sent to the A/V device.

    • Systems and methods are provided that facilitate automatic convergence and geometry alignment in projection systems. Preferably, an optical element such as a lens array is coupled to all areas of the projection system's screen and to a detector element such as a photocell array. In operation, each lens of the lens array is adapted to map an individual portion or region of the screen onto the photocell array. A microprocessor, controller or the like uses the data output from the photocells to instruct an alignment controller to center or steer the beams to compensate for convergence error at a particular location. In a center alignment mode, four (4) or more beacon dots located about the periphery of the screen are detected to determine screen size and position, which is used to center the video image and the centers of the mapped regions on the screen.

    • The present invention is directed to a mounting clip that facilitates easy installation and removal of protective shields for PTVs and other video display units. The clip preferably comprises a base attached to the protective shield and a thin walled body extending from the base. An forward lobe of the body includes a generally semi-circular nose and a locking member protruding from the body adjacent the base of the nose. A rear lobe of the body is preferably non-contiguous at a base end on the same side of the body from which the locking member protrudes to form a spring-like lever arm. The base end of the lever arm is preferably bent inwardly to form a push or handle member. In operation, the clip snaps into predetermined grooves positioned about the periphery of the display unit screen. Once inserted into the groove, the locking member abuts a stepped surface formed in the wall of the groove to removably lock the clip in place. To release the locking member and remove the clip from the groove, the handle member is depressed directing the lever arm and the locking member inwardly a distance sufficient to bypass the stepped surface in the channel. The shield and clip are then pulled outwardly to remove the clip from the groove.

    • Systems, methods and apparatus are provided for allowing a user to supervise personal exposure to a program exhibited by a consumer electronics device, such as a television system. The consumer electronics device includes “V-chip” circuitry that analyzes a signal and either blocks or passes the signal based on certain content-based criteria. In this connection, a user can program the “V-chip” circuitry with the preset content-based criteria in the form of preset content-based specification sets, which are stored in the consumer electronics device by the manufacturer. The preset content-based specification sets specify either allowable or objectionable content within a program signal received by the consumer electronics device. The “V-chip” circuitry receives a content-based indicator set, which is indicative of the actual content of the program signal. One of the preset content-based specification sets is conveniently selected by a user. The “V-chip” circuitry then compares the content-based indicator set with the selected preset content-based specification set when the program signal is received by the consumer electronics device. Based on this comparison, the “V-chip” circuitry either passes the signal to an output device for transformation of the signal into the program, or blocks the signal from being sent to the output device.

    • Systems, methods and apparatuses are provided for allowing a user to supervise personal exposure to a program exhibited by a consumer electronics device, such as, e.g., a television system. The consumer electronics device includes a facial recognition system and media rating enforcement circuitry that analyzes a program signal and either blocks or passes the program signal based on certain content and viewer based criteria and also, in the alternative, time based criteria. In this connection, a user can program the enforcement circuitry with the content and viewer based criteria in the form of one or more viewing profiles comprising viewer specifications and content-based specifications associated with the viewer specifications, and, which specify a rating and/or a subject matter category. The enforcement circuitry receives one or more viewer indicators from a facial recognition system that are indicative of the viewers present in a viewing area and one or more content-based indicators, which are indicative of a rating and/or a subject matter category of the program. The enforcement circuitry compares the viewer indicators with the viewer specifications and then the content-based indicators with the content-based specifications. Based on this comparison, the enforcement circuitry either passes the program signal to an output device for transformation of the program signal into the program or blocks the program signal from being sent to the output device.
