    • A system for providing telematics to a vehicle is provided. The system includes an integrated communication device of the vehicle having a memory holding a list uniquely identifying at least one mobile communication device. The system includes a telematics component that is communicatively connected to the integrated communication device of the vehicle and has a data pump that sends out a request for information. An off-site telematics information provider receives a request for information from the telematics component utilizing a communications path between the data pump of the telematics component and the off-site telematics information provider. The at least one mobile communication device automatically receives a channeled response to the request for information from the off-site telematics information provider when connected to the integrated communication device.

    • A method of providing navigational information includes processing destination information spoken by a vehicle occupant on-board. The processed voice information is transmitted to a remote center wirelessly. The processed voice information is voice recognition analyzed at the remote data center to recognize components of the destination information spoken. The remote center generates a list of hypothetical recognized components of the destination information listed by confidence levels as calculated for each component of the destination information analyzed by the voice recognition system. The hypothetical recognized component list is displayed with confidence levels at the remote center for selective checking by a human data center operator. A component set is selected based on the confidence levels and accuracy of the selected set is confirmed by interactive voice exchanges between the vehicle driver and the remote data center. A destination is determined from confirmed components of the destination information.

    • A system for providing navigational information to a vehicle driver. An on-board system is disposed on a vehicle and processes and transmits to a data center, via a wireless link, spoken requests from a vehicle driver requesting navigational information. The data center performs automated voice recognition on the received spoken requests to attempt recognition of destination components of the spoken requests, generates a list of possible destination components corresponding to the spoken requests, assigns a confidence score for each of the possible destination components on the list, determines if a possible destination component with a highest confidence score has a confidence score above a selected threshold, and computer-generates a representation of the possible destination components for transmission to the on-board system via the wireless link for confirmation by the vehicle driver if the highest confidence score of every possible destination component is above the selected threshold.

    • A method for providing telematics to a vehicle includes the steps of providing a user-removable telematics component with a Global Positioning System (GPS) device, a data pump, and a short range wireless personal area network transceiver (e.g., Bluetooth transceiver), communicatively connecting the telematics component to an integrated communication device of the vehicle, the integrated communication device having a vehicle short range wireless personal area network transceiver operable to connect and communicate with at least one of at least one mobile communication device selected from a currently paired mobile communication device, a previously paired mobile communication device, and a pre-defined mobile communication device and a least one vehicle communications bus, receiving at the data pump a request from the at least one mobile communication device to perform a vehicle function, and performing the vehicle function with the telematics component.
