    • A defect analyzing method includes acquiring a position and a size of a defect obtained in a defect inspection of a semiconductor device and a waveform of a reflected light in a region which includes the defect, the waveform being obtained in an optical inspection; acquiring process step information which includes a plurality of process steps to manufacture the semiconductor device and a processing content per the process step; performing a process simulation of the semiconductor device based on the position and the size of the defect and the process step information; performing an optical simulation on a result of the process simulation thereby to generate a waveform of a reflected light; calculating a similarity degree between the acquired waveform of the reflected light and the generated waveform of the reflected light; and judging whether or not the calculated similarity degree exceeds a threshold value registered in advance.

    • The user of any one portable terminal sends a content information request including a user ID to a distribution server. In response, the distribution server distributes a stream data of content that can be used on the user's terminal. If the user of a first portable terminal intends to let a second portable terminal try out a certain content, the user sends to the distribution server the trial permission information including the user's own user ID, a content ID of the content of interest, and a digital signature. The distribution server authenticates the received information before distributing a streaming data of a trial-oriented content with the content ID and user ID attached to it as search keys. This allows the content that can be used on a given user terminal to be tried out on another user terminal without the latter user having recourse to the steps of searching for the content in question.

    • A system for updating a data set through a geographical communication network. The data set is stored in a recovery storage unit located in a recovery data center and has to be updated with data blocks generated by a processing system located in a primary data center. The recovery data center is associated through the geographical communication network to a device provided with a temporary storage area for temporarily storing in corresponding storage locations the incoming data blocks generated by the processing system and directed to update the data set, wherein a first synchronous acknowledgement signal is provided to the primary data center acknowledging the successful writing in the temporary storage area of the data blocks as soon as the data blocks are written in the temporary storage area so as not to block or slow down the normal way of operating of the processing system, and wherein the locations of the temporary storage area occupied by the data blocks are made available for new incoming data blocks when a second acknowledgement signal is received acknowledging the successful updating of the data set.
