Another process removes boron from ion exchange system regeneration solution including introducing a caustic material into the regeneration solution; heating the regeneration solution to a selected temperature; introducing heated regeneration solution into an evaporation zone to remove at least a substantial portion of water from the regeneration solution and thereby form a slurry comprising boron salt(s); and introducing the slurry into a crystallizer zone to remove residual water.

    • Techniques are provided for managing a digital wallet on behalf of a user. A user causes one or more value-ascertainable items (such as gift cards) to be reflected in the user's digital wallet. Once a value-ascertainable item is reflected in the digital wallet, the user may access the digital wallet and use the value-ascertainable item to make a purchase from a merchant that is capable of redeeming the value-ascertainable item. Alternatively, an exchange service that maintains the digital wallet allows the user to exchange the value-ascertainable item for another value-ascertainable item, whether of the same type item or a different type of item. The exchanged-for item may be used to make a purchase from a merchant that is capable of redeeming the exchanged-for item.

An example method includes receiving a set of identifiers corresponding to a merchant's stored value tracking system, receiving a request for an electronic value card, associating an identifier from the set of identifiers with the electronic value card, synchronizing the merchant's stored value tracking system with the issued electronic value card, and delivering the electronic value card to a customer. An example system includes a merchant stored value tracking system having a set of unique identifiers, a network communicatively linked with a merchant stored value tracking system; and a value card manager communicatively linked with the network. The value card manager may be configured to receive a request for an electronic value card, synchronize the electronic value card with the merchant stored value tracking system using the unique identifiers, and deliver the electronic value card to a customer for use in the merchant stored value tracking system.

    • A foldable data card assembly and method are disclosed. The foldable data card assembly comprises a base assembly with a left portion, a middle portion, and a right potion. The left portion or the middle portion contains an aperture. A data card is enclosed within the base assembly such that the aperture is aligned with a special number on the data card. A security barrier is placed adjacent to the personal account number on the data card, but the security barrier is not placed between the aperture and the special number on the card. During manufacture, the special number is read from the card through the aperture, and the special number used to generate activation information which is printed on the package. The activation information is read at the point of sale, and used to activate the account associated with the activation information.

    • The present invention is generally directed to methods of manufacturing data card assemblies. These methods generally comprise manufacturing or purchasing a data card comprising a special number, wherein the special number is associated with a particular data card account; packaging the data cards in a package such that the special number is visible; generating activation information; reading the special number on the data card; recording the activation information on the package; and associating the special number with the particular activation information recorded on the package. Some embodiments of the present invention may further comprise conveying the association between the activation information and the special number to an intermediary managing the data card accounts.     • A method and device for handling and deploying a sheet of material are provided. In a first version, a rigid rod is positioned within a flexible cylindrical core and the sheet is wrapped around the core. The rod is then removed from the core and the core and sheet may be folded and reshaped for storage or shipment. The core and sheet may then be unfolded and the sheet may be unwrapped from the core. The rigid rod may be positioned within the core after the core is unfolded and to enable easier removal of the sheet from the core. A dispenser may be provided that attaches to the core and/or the rod and enables an operator to unwrap the sheet from the core. The core may be sufficiently rigid to allow the dispenser to be coupled with the core and without positioning of a rigid rod within the core.
