    • A connector which includes a connector socket and a mated connector plug to be fitted into the connector socket has a socket body which includes upper and lower terminal holding portions. The upper and lower terminal holding portions each have a plurality of terminals which are arranged in a row along the width direction of the socket body. The upper and lower terminal holding portions are arranged so as to face each other through a predetermined spacing. The connector socket further has a rib for maintaining the spacing between the upper and lower terminal holding portions for preventing both the terminal holding portions from being deformed so that they approach each other. The rib is integrally formed with the upper and lower terminal holding portions and arranged substantially at the center of the width direction of the socket body. The mated connector plug has a plate member which is inserted into the spacing when the connector plug is connected to the connector socket.

    • A connector socket has a metallic latch member that is inserted from the rear through a latch attachment opening to position an engagement section in a plug insertion opening where it can be engaged by a lock claw of a plug inserted into a plug insertion opening in the front surface of the connector socket. The metallic engagement section resists wear from repeated plugging and unplugging of a connector plug in the connector plug opening. The latch member has transversely extending fixed support pieces integrally formed with the engagement section, which fit through guide grooves in the latch attachment opening. Reverse engagement claws extending laterally from the outer ends of the fixed support pieces dig into, and permanently retain the latch member in place. The ability to easily insert the latch member through the rear surface of the connector socket reduces assembly cost, and permits a connector socket to have any desired number of plug insertion openings in its face.

    • A connector socket uses a small number of connector pin types and prevents short circuits from occurring between external connection ends of the connector pins. A plurality of plug insertion openings are formed in molded block of insulating resin. A plurality of connector pins are disposed with connection ends projecting inside the plug insertion openings. External connection ends at the other end of connector pins are connected to a conductive body of a printed circuit substrate. The connector pins are fitted into pin slots at the back of the plug insertion openings. A portion of the connector pins, oriented along the direction in which the plug insertion openings are arranged, serves as shared connector pins.

    • A branch-connection connector having a plug portion and a socket portion, which can be fitted into one another, are formed respectively at a front side and a rear side of a cover which forms an outer peripheral surface portion of the connector. A lock engagement piece is connected to the plug portion, and a lock release button is provided on a peripheral surface portion of the cover. The lock engagement piece is resiliently bendable, and has a proximal end connected to the cover, and a retaining projection, which can be fitted in an engagement recess formed in the socket portion of another said connector. The retaining projection is movable into and out of the plug portion and is formed on a free end of the lock engagement piece. A lock release button is fixedly secured at its proximal end to the cover. A free end of the lock release button can press down a portion of the lock engagement piece between the proximal end and free end of the lock engagement piece, thereby moving the retaining projection into the plug portion.
