An example method disclosed herein includes receiving an activation code from a first wireless device, transmitting a deactivation instruction to a second wireless device in response to receiving the activation code for the first wireless device, transmitting a location instruction to the second wireless device to invoke a location function of the second wireless device, receiving information indicative of the location of the second wireless device in response to the transmitted location instruction, and sending an e-mail message indicative of the location of the second wireless device to an account owner of the second wireless device in response to receiving the information indicative of the location.

    • Various embodiments of the disclosed subject matter provide methods and systems to store a policy specifying at least one rule relating to recording, storage or delivery of broadcast programming to a consumer of such programming, and to record, store or deliver broadcast programming in response to at least one of the rules in the policy. According to another example embodiment, a method and system provide for a subscriber requesting that at least one broadcast television program be saved for the subscriber upstream from the subscriber in a television distribution system, and further that the at least one program offered to the subscriber for saving is determined based on a policy established for the at least program. According to another example embodiment a system provides at least one computing device including a computer program to control the recording or delivery of at least one broadcast television program in accordance with a policy established to control the recording or delivery of the broadcast television program.

    • A system and method for detecting computer port inactivity are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes a router that has a first interface to communicate with a first connection at an end-user computer and a second interface to communicate with a second connection at a distributed computer network. The system includes detection logic responsive to the first interface to detect inactivity at the end-user computer and further includes blocking logic responsive to the detection logic. The blocking logic is operable to selectively initiate a blocking signal to disable communicating data received at the second interface to the end-user computer via the first interface. The detection logic and the blocking logic are embedded within a port of the router.

    • A system and method are disclosed for indicating network connectivity and access to an information service offering. A method incorporating teachings of the present disclosure may include receiving at a router a request to establish a Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) session for a LAN-side device. The LAN-side device may be acting or capable of acting as a LAN node and may be “sharing” a broadband backhaul accessible via the router. In response to receiving the request to establish a PPPoE session, a PPPoE discovery stage packet may be output and may contain a tag identifying and/or assigned to the LAN side device. Similarly, if a different LAN-side device desires a PPPoE session, a request packet to establish a different PPPoE session may be received, and another PPPoE discovery stage packet including a different tag may be output.
