摘要： A thermal barrier coating and deposition process for a component intended for use in a hostile thermal environment, such as the turbine, combustor and augmentor components of a gas turbine engine. The TBC has a first coating portion on at least a first surface portion of the component. The first coating portion is formed of a ceramic material to have at least an inner region, at least an outer region overlying the inner region, and a columnar microstructure whereby the inner and outer regions comprise columns of the ceramic material. The columns of the inner region are more closely spaced than the columns of the outer region so that the inner region of the first coating portion is denser than the outer region of the first coating portion, wherein the higher density of the inner region promotes the impact resistance of the first coating portion.

摘要： A fuel cell stack includes at least one fuel cell unit and a number of interconnects defining at least two openings and including at least one flow field for flowing a reagent. Each opening defines a respective fuel manifold, including at least one each of intake and exhaust fuel manifolds. The fuel cell unit includes an anode, a cathode, and an electrolyte disposed therebetween. The anode is adjacent to and in both electrical connection and fluid communication with one of the interconnects, which has a flow field that guides a fuel flow between the intake and exhaust fuel manifolds. The cathode is adjacent to and in both electrical connection and fluid communication with another interconnect with a flow field that guides an oxidant flow. The fuel cell stack includes a perimeter isolation seal and at least two interior isolation seals for sealing the electrolyte to the respective interconnects.

摘要： A method for providing a substantially-smooth protective coating on a metal-based substrate is disclosed. It comprises the steps of: (a) applying a thermal barrier coating over the substrate by plasma-spraying; (b) plasma-heating the applied coating according to a time- and temperature schedule sufficient to re-melt the surface region of the coating, allowing it to flow and smoothen; and then (c) cooling the surface region to a temperature below its melting point. The thermal barrier coating is often zirconia-based, e.g., yttria-stabilized zirconia. After being cooled, the surface is much smoother than when originally applied, thereby allowing the coating to be used in a higher-temperature environment.

摘要： A composition useful as a thermal barrier coating on a superalloy substrate intended for use in hostile thermal environments. The coating comprises zirconia stabilized in a predominately tetragonal phase. The composition includes a ceramic component consisting essentially of zirconia (ZrO2) or a combination of zirconia and hafnia (HfO2) and a stabilizer component comprising, in combination, a first co-stabilizer selected from YbO1.5, HoO1.5, ErO1.5, TmO1.5, LuO1.5, and combinations thereof, and a second co-stabilizer selected from TiO2, PdO2, VO2, GeO2, and combinations thereof. Optionally, the stabilizer component includes Y2O3. The stabilizer component is present in an amount effective to achieve the predominantly tetragonal phase in the coating.
