    • The patient positioning kit described herein is a set of vinyl-coated polyurethane foam forms and storage unit. The kit functions to support injured patient extremities during specific surgical procedures. The kit may be tailored to certain surgical specialties such as orthopedic traumatology or orthopedic sports medicine. For the given surgical specialty, each kit is composed of foam forms specifically for the most often performed surgical procedures within that specialty. Each kit contains a significant variety of support pieces such that various patient sizes and extremity positions may be stabilized. Both arm and leg associated procedures are facilitated by component pieces of the patient positioning kit. The kit pieces are coated with a polymeric material that forms a protective shell that increases piece durability and reduces fluid uptake.

    • An intramedullary catheter nail apparatus and method is disclosed that provides both the mechanical stabiliazation and therapeutic drug delivery needed to optimize long bone repair. In the preferred embodiment, the intramedullary catheter nail contains circular channels running along its length that have open communication with the outer surface of the nail, but are primarily receded within the nail. Enclosed in these channels are end-capped, catheter tubes with perforated regions mared with radiographically-visible rings. Once the nail is mechanically fixed within the repaired long bone, the catheter tubes are retracted the needed distance so as to position the perforated regions adjacent to the site of bone fracture or disease. Internal catheter tubes would preferably unite as exiting the nail. Catheter tubing would exit the patient's body through a subcutaneous port, thus allowing convenient and sterile connection to a pumping source of therapeutic agents, such as an infusion pump. The delivery of growth factors, analgesics, chemotherapeutic, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, diagnostic agents or mixtures of various components of differing classes directly to the trauma site would be facillitated.

    • The present invention extends to a stemmed amputation implant. In some embodiments, a dual stemmed implant includes a base plate and two intramedullary rods extending from the proximal side of the base plate. The two intramedullary rods are configured for insertion into corresponding intramedullary bone canals reamed into remaining portions of amputated bones, such as, for example, a tibia and fibula or an ulna and radius. The position of the intramedullary rods relative to one another is configured to maintain appropriate separation between amputated bones when the first intramedullary rod and the second intramedullary rod are inserted into the amputated bones. In some embodiments, a hollow tube replaces one or more of the intramedullary rods. A hollow tube can be configured to cover the exterior of a bone, such as, for example, the fibula, when the bone is not stable enough for intramedullary fixation.

    • The disclosed device is an oscillating exercise device for strengthening of the muscles comprising the shoulder and the torso. The device is held in the user's hand and moved in an oscillating manner to simulate a sports specific movement or for muscle strengthening. The device is composed of a tube with internally threaded ends, detachable, threaded end caps, hinged clamshell handle, weight mass and elastic resistance bands. The end caps house springs that extend into the tube when screwed to the ends of the tube. The weight is of a diameter such that it may travel freely along the inner length of the tube, yet closely matched to the inner diameter of the tube such that significant air compression occurs in front of the moving weight. The generated air compression slows the velocity of the traveling weight and reduces the shock of the weight when it impacts the springs at the tube ends. An attachable handle allow for improved simulation of sports specific throwing motions. The elastic resistance bands attach to the tube by way of the clamping handle unit and provide directional resistance during sports related training exercises.
