    • An artificial joint, generally, can have natural load transfer capabilities. The joint includes a first component having a first articular surface and a rotation device, and a second component having a second articular surface for mating with the first articular surface and a rotation device receptacle. The first component is matable to the second component through cooperation of the rotation device and the rotation device receptacle. The first component can cooperate with the second component in contact of the first and second articular surfaces and in articulation of the joint when the first component is mated to the second component. The joint can be embodied as a knee prosthesis; therein, the first and second components are femoral and tibial components, respectively, with the first articular surface being termed a condylar surface and the second articular surface being termed a condylar mating surface. The joint, especially the rotation device, may be made of metal. The joint may be implanted in suitable bone stock as a prosthesis.

    • Universal joint implant includes an artificial glenohumeral component having articulating surfaces. The artificial glenohumeral component can include a first portion for articulation against an artificial glenoid surface or natural glenoid of the patient, and second portion(s) for articulation against an artificial humeral surface or resected, natural humerus; and a universal joint connection. The connection includes a yoke to provide for a center of movement generally within or adjacent a volume defined by an upper head of a normal humerus, which otherwise would be resected; and a substantially spheroidal body, at least in part, dissected, yet connected to provide the yoke; a body pivotable with respect to the yoke for providing motion in a first direction; a rotatable glenoid fixing member, rotatably fixable about the artificial glenoid surface or natural or resected glenoid; and a rotatable humeral fixing member, rotatably fixable about the artificial humeral surface or resected humerus.

    • Multi-hooded enarthrodial joint implant has a hard substance articulating cup including a hard substance head-receiving cup having an articular surface upon which a head of a joint can articulate, and which, in general, has a margin generally about a hemisphere more or less and at least two hoods that are marginally extended continuations of superior one-half or so of cup containment of a sufficient magnitude to reduce an overall dimension of socket outlet to less than a hemisphere, which can embrace and contain the head. The head is made of a hard substance and has a truncated generally circular cross section, a truncated surface with a feature for attachment of the stem, and an opposing articular surface for articulation against the articular surface of the ceramic head-receiving cup. As an ensemble, the cup is combined with the head, typically with a stem, for a total joint implant. The hard substance may be, for example, a composite substance, a metal or a metal alloy. Either the cup or the head, but not both, may be ceramic when employed in an ensemble.
