    • A method includes, during an ongoing call of a wireless user terminal in one of a circuit switched domain or a packet switched domain, initiating a handover procedure; setting parameters allowing the other domain to determine the actual resources needed to continue the call in the other domain, sending an indication of these parameters towards a network element of the other domain and completing the handover procedure. When the ongoing call is in the circuit switched domain completing the handover procedure results in handing over the ongoing call to the packet switched domain, and when the ongoing call is in the packet switched domain completing the handover procedure results in handing over the ongoing call to the circuit switched domain. For example, the circuit switched domain may be a GERAN network and the packet switched domain may be an E-UTRAN (LTE) network. In the GERAN network the handover procedure may be accomplished at least in part through a Gs interface between a mobile switching center and a serving general packet radio system support node and/or through a Gb interface between a base station system and the serving general packet radio system support node. The handover procedure is accomplished at least in part by signaling conducted over an S3 interface between the serving general packet radio system support node of the GERAN network and the mobility management entity of the E-UTRAN network.

    • A network broadcasts a list of multiple core networks. A mobile station MS selects one and sends an uplink message (e.g., ATTACH or ROUTING AREA UPDATE Request) with a new format detailed by these teachings. The body of the message has a data section and an identity section, and the identity section includes: a temporary identifier for a mobile station, a bit sequence indicating that a selected core network is identified in the uplink message and indicating type for the temporary identifier (e.g., Foreign or Random TLLI), and an indication of the selected core network. For the Foreign TLLI there is an extension field for the additional bits of the Foreign TLLI as compared to the Random TLLI, and the Foreign TLLI is derived from the mobile station's PTMSI.

    • A system and method for minimizing signalling loads due to mutual exchanges of information between neighboring cells in which the same session is transmitted, and for reducing the time required to transmit MBMS neighbor cell information messages in a serving cell when a higher level of signalling occurs, wherein all broadcast control channel (BCCH) carriers indicated in a BCCH allocation are monitored by a mobile station (MS). A list of the cells having the strongest non-serving carriers is updated as often as the duration of the running average for measurements of the BCCH allocation. Base transceiver station identity codes (BSICs) and neighboring cell indexes of BCCH carriers are added to an uplink radio link control/medium access control (RLC/MAC) message that is transmitted to a network. As a result, the network is provided with the identity of which cell the mobile station is most likely to reselect to upon reception of the uplink RLC/MAC control message carrying the BSICs and neighboring cell indexes of the neighboring non-serving BCCH carriers of the mobile station.

    • A method and equipment by which a mobile station receiving a point-to-multicast (p-t-m) transmission from a radio access network (RAN) of a wireless communication system communicates information to the RAN of use in the mobile changing to a neighboring cell for receiving the p-t-m transmission; in particular, the mobile station indicates to the RAN whether cell reselection parameters for the neighboring cell have been received, and/or whether neighboring cell information indicating parameters for receiving the p-t-m transmission in the neighboring-cell have also been received by the mobile. In a typical embodiment, the mobile would indicate not only whether parameters for receiving the p-t-m transmission in the neighboring cell have been received, but which set of parameters have been received. The information of use in the mobile changing to the neighboring cell is communicated to the RAN in an acknowledgment message uplinked on a packet access control channel.
