    • An automatic sound field correcting device executes a signal process to the plurality of audio signals on respective correspondent signal transmission paths, and outputs them to a plurality of correspondent speakers to correct sound characteristics on the respective signal transmission paths. Namely, a measurement signal is supplied to each signal transmission path, and a measurement sound corresponding to it is outputted from the speaker to a sound space. The outputted measurement sound is detected as a detecting signal. The frequency characteristic of the audio signal on each signal transmission path is corrected by an equalizer, and a gain value of the equalizer is determined by a correction amount determining unit. A frequency characteristics correction is performed predetermined times. At a first correction, the correction amount determining unit determines the correction amount by performing a frequency analysis, based on the detecting signal, i.e. base on the detecting signal corresponding to the measurement sound actually outputted to the sound space. On the contrary, at and after a second correction, the correction amount determining unit determines the correction amount based on the detecting signal or an output signal of the equalizer. Namely, at and after the second correction, the output signal of the equalizer is supplied to the correction amount determining unit in a signal processing circuit as the need arises, and the frequency characteristics correction is performed without actually outputting the measurement sound to the sound space.

    • In a frequency characteristic adjustment apparatus incorporated in an audio system, a frequency characteristic of an audio signal is made to agree with a target frequency characteristic, thus providing an equalizing function. In the apparatus, by a frequency characteristic controller, a measurement signal is detected as a sound-collected signal that received by way of speakers/microphone, and the sound-collected signal is divided into a signal component falling into a one fixed-level band and one or more signal components falling into one or more variable-level bands. A relative level of the signal component in each variable-level band is estimated on the basis of a level of the signal component in the fixed-level band in the target frequency characteristic. Based on the estimated relative levels, the levels at equalizers are set, so that the levels of signal components of the signal are adjusted by the equalizers channel by channel.

    • In order to measure a sound characteristic in a sound space, measurement sound is outputted to the sound space. Measurement sound data of a predetermined time period, which is prepared in advance, is divided into plural block periods, and plural block sound data are generated. A reproduction process of reproducing the plural block sound data in the order forming the measurement sound data is executed plural times by shifting the block sound data reproduced first by one for each time. Thereby, the measurement sound is outputted. When the above reproduction process is executed plural times, detected sound data corresponding to the block sound data reproduced at the identical reproduction order for each time are operated, and a sound characteristic is determined. Thereby, it becomes possible to measure the sound characteristic in the period shorter than the measurement sound data of the predetermined time period.

    • An automatic sound field correction apparatus processes multi-channel audio signals on respective signal transmission lines and reproduces them via a plurality of speakers. When adjusting frequency characteristics of the signal transmission lines, a measurement signal is supplied to the signal transmission lines and measurement signal sounds are emitted from the respective speakers. Then, the measurement signal sounds during a direct sound period are detected as detection signals by a detection device such as a microphone. Equalizer gain values are set appropriately based on the detection signals, thereby adjusting the frequency characteristics of the signal transmission lines. During the direct sound period in which the measurement signal sounds are detected, since the measurement signal sounds do not contain a reverberant component, the frequency characteristics of the signal transmission lines can be adjusted mainly using the direct sounds. Thus, it makes such corrections that will give desired frequency characteristics mainly to direct sounds without influence from reverberant sounds.
