    • A present novel and non-trivial system, device, and method for presenting course deviation information on an aircraft display unit are disclosed. Lateral/vertical boundaries are established based upon lateral/vertical navigation data provided by one or more navigation data sources. Lateral/vertical deviation symbology data set(s) representative of lateral/vertical deviation scale(s) are generated and adapted to the lateral/vertical navigation data. The adapted lateral/vertical deviation symbology data set(s) representative of adapted lateral/vertical deviation scale(s) are provided to a display unit, whereby symbology(ies) of such adapted scale(s) are presented on a screen of the display unit. Each adapted scale is comprised of a desired course indicator and at least one deviation indicator, where the desired course indicator corresponds to a desired course and each deviation indicator corresponds to one navigation boundary. In response to changes of aircraft deviation, all indicators move together in unison within their respective, adapted deviation scale.

    • A present novel and non-trivial system, device, and method for reducing pilot interaction between pages presented on the screen of a display unit are disclosed. The system comprises a source for providing pilot input data, a window generator (“WG”), processor, and a display unit; the system could also comprise an aural alert unit. Data received from the pilot input source includes data responsive to a pilot's interaction with one or more graphical user interfaces (“GUIs”). After receiving the input data, the WG generates window image data representative of a window, one or more menus, a front page integrated with at least front page GUI, and one or more window GUIs. Then, the display unit receives the window image data and presents the information on the display unit. Additionally, the WG generates aural alert data. An aural alert unit receives the aural alert data and aurally presents the alert.

Symbology image data representative of an image depicting takeoff distance symbology is generated by a symbology generator based upon flight management data and navigation reference data provided by a flight management data source and the navigation reference data source, respectively. The takeoff distance symbology comprises a far end and a near end, where the location of the far end corresponds to a location of the end of the assigned runway, and the location of the near end is dependent upon the location of the far end, the direction of the runway opposite of the assigned runway, and the takeoff distance. The takeoff distance symbology may be presented as a superimposition against an image of the assigned runway presented on the screen of the display unit.

    • A present novel and non-trivial system, module, and method for presenting messages to a pilot of an aircraft are disclosed. The system comprises a source for providing message data, a message generating (“MG”) processor, and a presentation system. Message data received from a message data source includes data fields for providing message location on a flight plan and one or more modes of presentation. After receiving the message data, an MG processor generates a message presentation data set corresponding to the message data; the message presentation data set represents a message object shown at the message location on a flight plan and at least one presentation mode. Then, a presentation system receives the message presentation data set and presents the information contained in such data set to one or more units of the presentation system including a visual display unit and/or an aural alert unit.

Symbology image data representative of an image depicting a runway highlighter adjacent to the assigned runway is generated by a symbology generator based upon assigned runway information and airport surface information provided by a flight management data source and the navigation reference data source, respectively. Such runway highlighter comprises a plurality of runway edge highlighters and a plurality of chevrons pointing in the direction of the assigned runway. The image could include one or more directional runway identifiers. Additionally, the generated image could include the depiction of township location, a line-up distance docking indicator, and/or a groundspeed indicator based upon information provided by a navigation data source. Additionally, the generated image could include the depiction of a wind barb based upon information provided by a weather data source.
