    • A method for monitoring location of a cellular phone in relation to a predefined geographic area with automatic notification of boundary violations is provided. If the cellular phone is carried by a person, the invention can be used to monitor a range of movement of a person carrying the cellular phone. The method can include the steps of selectively identifying a predefined geographic area; monitoring a location of an automatic location identification (ALI) equipped cellular phone; and automatically determining if boundaries of the geographic area have been violated. Notably, the step of determining if the boundaries of the geographic area have been violated can include automatically determining if the location of the cellular phone is within the predefined geographic area. This step can be performed by a remote server or by a cellular phone.

    • Method for identifying a location of a wireless device responsive to a single user command. The method can include (a) determining a physical location of the wireless device using at least one of a global positioning system and a network based solution, (b) communicating data identifying the physical location to a remote location application server, (c) building a map file at the location application server based at least in part on the data, (d) notifying the wireless device that the map file is available, (e) retrieving physical location data and the map file to the wireless device, and (f) showing the location information and displaying a map corresponding to the map file.

    • A method for identifying a physical location of a first automatic location identification (ALI) equipped wireless device by determining a geographic area based upon the identified physical location. In a next step, a server identifies at least a second ALI equipped wireless device located within the determined geographic area, and causes an identifier that identifies the second wireless device to be sent to the first wireless device. A user also can select the geographic region from a menu of regions. In either case, the user of the first ALI equipped wireless device can initiate communication with a user of the second wireless device, for instance using text messaging or by placing a voice call.

    • A system for utilizing a location-based application across a plurality of networks. A target mobile device operates within a target network of the plurality of networks. A requesting device operates within a requesting network of the plurality of networks. The requesting device transmits a location request for a location of the target mobile device utilizing a location-based service application.
