    • A connectorized fiber optic communications cable can comprise a section rated for indoor service and a section rated for outdoor service. A continuous optical fiber can extend through the indoor-rated section and the outdoor-rated section, for example from an outdoor-rated connector on the outdoor-rated section to an indoor-rated connector on the indoor-rated section. The cable can be installed via feeding the section rated for indoor service through a hole in a building, such as a home, to a communication or computing device within the building. The section rated for outdoor service can be buried underground and extended to another communication or computing device located outside the building.

    • This invention provides breathable composite materials with good liquid barrier properties comprising a laminate of a nonwoven web layer and a breathable film layer wherein breathability of the composite is provided by a plurality of point-like deformations of the film layer. In one embodiment, the composites also have a soft, cloth-like texture at at least one surface thereof. Also provided is a process for making such composites comprising applying a molten film-forming resin composition capable of developing breathability on deformation to a nonwoven web, cooling the molten composition to form a coated web having a web layer bonded to a film layer, and subjecting the coated web to heat and pressure at a plurality of points on a surface thereof wherein the heat, pressure and density of, and proportion of the composite surface occupied by, the deformations are effective to impart breathability to the film without loss of liquid barrier properties. In another embodiment of the process, web and cast film components are subjected to heat and pressure at a plurality of points to bond the film and the web and provide a plurality of point-like deformations of the film layer, thereby imparting breathability without loss of liquid barrier properties.

    • A data communication cable can comprise multiple pairs of twisted conductors. A jacket that extends along the outside surface of the cable can define a longitudinal core, internal to the cable. The conductor pairs can be disposed in the core of the cable along with a foam matrix or a porous filler, with the matrix and the conductors occupying essentially all of the volume of the core. The foam matrix can hold each conductor pair in a respective location within the cable core to control signal crosstalk on each pair. A co-extrusion process can produce the cable via simultaneously extruding the foam matrix and the jacket. A pulling apparatus can feed the conductor pairs though respective ports of an extrusion head-and-die assembly. As one extruder encases the moving conductor pairs in the foam matrix, another extruder forms the jacket over the matrix and the embedded conductors.
