    • Maintaining communication of a wireless device and using a plurality of wireless communication technologies. A first paging message schedule may be determined for maintaining communication between the wireless device and a first base station associated with a first wireless communication technology. Similarly, a second paging message schedule may be determined for maintaining communication between the wireless device and a second base station associated with a second wireless technology. Additionally, a scheduling conflict may be determined between the first paging message schedule and the second paging message schedule. Accordingly, communication with the first base station may be switched to a third base station using the first wireless technology in response to determining that there is a scheduling conflict.

    • Methods and apparatus enabling a wireless network to implement efficient and robust paging channel operation. In one aspect, the invention permits recovery of a paging channel after a virtual connection failure. A virtually connected UMTS cellular phone that misses a paging notification will no longer be synchronized with its serving radio network, and the resultant loss of synchronization causes a service “blackout” until the devices are resynchronized. Accordingly, in one embodiment, a virtually connected cellular device continuously monitors for fallback messaging, greatly expediting detection and correction of a virtual connection failure. In another embodiment, a virtually connected base station which is unable to page a cellular device in a virtually connected mode continues paging in both virtual connection and fallback modes, thereby provoking an immediate response from the cellular device.

    • Electronic devices may have multiple wireless integrated circuits such as first and second baseband processor integrated circuits. The first baseband processors may be used exclusively for handling packet switched traffic, whereas the second baseband processor may be used exclusively for handling circuit switched traffic. Radio-frequency front end circuitry may be used to couple multiple antennas to the baseband processors and associated radio-frequency transceivers. The first baseband processor may be coupled to a first universal integrated circuit card (UICC) storing a first subscriber profile, whereas the second baseband processor may be coupled to a second UICC storing a second subscriber profile. The first baseband processor may be used to support any desired circuit switched radio access technology, whereas the second baseband processor may be used to support any desired packet switched radio access technology.

    • A method to control configuration change times is performed at a mobile wireless communication device when the mobile wireless communication device is connected to a wireless network. The mobile wireless device is connected in a first configuration mode. The mobile wireless communication device receives a control message from a radio network subsystem in the wireless network at a local receive time. The received control message includes a time indication for when to start a configuration mode change of the mobile wireless communication device, which the device extracts from the control message. The mobile wireless communication device reconfigures to a second configuration mode, different from the first configuration mode, based on the extracted time indication and the local receive time.
