    • An apparatus configured to write input data on an optical recording medium using a write pulse waveform, the write pulse waveform including a first pulse, a last pulse and a multi-pulse train, is provided. The apparatus includes a discriminator configured to discriminate a magnitude of a present mark and a magnitude of a leading space from the input data, a write waveform controller configured to control the write pulse waveform to generate an adaptive write pulse waveform by varying a position of a rising edge of a first pulse of the present mark to be written according to the magnitude of the present mark and the magnitude of the leading space, and use a grouping table to control the write pulse waveform to generate the adaptive write pulse waveform, the grouping table being configured to store rising edge data of the first pulse of the write pulse waveform varying according to corresponding stored values of magnitudes of present marks and magnitudes of leading spaces, and a processor configured to process the input data on the optical recording medium using the adaptive write pulse waveform. The discriminator is further configured to apply the magnitude of the present mark and the magnitude of the leading space to the write waveform controller. The adaptive write pulse waveform is generated without regard for a trailing space of the present mark being written using the adaptive write pulse waveform. A width of the first pulse is varied by varying the position of the rising edge.

    • A method and an apparatus which controls write power of an optical driver by optimizing the number of channels used to drive a laser diode in a write mode while stabilizing the level of a write power voltage at an early stage of the write mode. The method of controlling the write power includes checking whether the write power provided to the laser diode included in the optical driver is stable, controlling the write power by increasing the number of channels used to control the write power so as to provide sufficient write power to drive the laser diode in response to the write power provided to the laser diode being unstable, and controlling the write power by using less channels than the channels used in response to the write power being unstable in response to the write power provided to the laser diode being stable. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce the size of a firmware by preventing channels unnecessary to perform a write mode from being used.

    • The invention related to a laser diode power control apparatus in an optical drive capable of driving an optical media by high-speed, which uses a fine-tuning pulse to provide a recording pulse type suitable for high-density optical media. The laser diode power control apparatus includes a pulse generating unit, a control unit, and a transmitting unit. The pulse generating unit generates a recording pulse for each channel. The control unit controls the pulse generating unit by determining whether to apply a fine-tuning pulse to the recording pulse for each channel based on the type of the optical medium and the driving speed of the optical drive for the optical medium. The transmitting unit transmits a power level for each channel according to the recording pulse output from the pulse generating unit.

    • A method of generating write pulse control signals adaptive to various optical recording media, and a recording apparatus adopting the method. In the write pulse control signal generating method, timing data is made with respect to starting and/or ending positions of pulses, relative to rising and falling edges of a mark, wherein the timing data includes a first pulses, a multi-pulse train, a last pulse and a cooling pulse, and the starting and ending positions of the pulses are varied for various optical recording media. The timing data is stored, and then a bias power control signal, an erase power control signal, a peak power control signal and a cooling power control signal are generated in synchronism with an input nonreturn to zero inverted (NRZI) signal, based on the timing data for each optical recording medium. The recording apparatus can store write pulses, which are adaptive to various optical recording media, in the form of timing data, and generate base signals based on the timing data. Also, the write pulse control signals can be generated by the base signals, which controls timing of the write pulses such that the optical recording can be realized adaptive to various optical recording media.
