摘要： A liquid crystal display element (10) in accordance with the present invention includes (i) a pair of substrates (1), at least one of which is a flexible substrate, (ii) a liquid crystal (3) with which a gap between the pair of substrates (1) is filled, (iii) a spacer member (4) having a height so as to sustain a thickness of the liquid crystal (3), (iv) a sealant (2) for allowing the gap to be filled with the liquid crystal (3), and (v) a barrier (5) for causing a liquid crystal filling region to be divided into (a) a first region including a display region and (b) a second region located outside the first region. The barrier (5) is attached to one substrate (1b) of the pair of the substrates (1), and is in close contact with, but not attached to, the other substrate (1a).

摘要： The invention relates to bismaleimides comprising mesogenic groups which consist, corresponding to (I), of two reactive terminal maleimide groups which are linked via linear or singly alkyl-substituted alkylene chains A, which are linked to an aromatic mesogen M via ester, amide or ether groups, wherein A, X, M and R are as defined in the specification. The invention, moreover, relates to oligomeric liquid crystalline bismaleimides of general formula (II) wherein A, X, M and R are as defined above, n represents and integer from 1 to 100 and B represents piperazinyl or a divalent radical which is derived from a primary or secondary para-substituted cyclic diamine, wherein B is bonded via the amino groups of the diamine. The invention also relates to methods of producing said bismaleimides.

摘要： The nematic liquid crystal composition exhibits a positive dielectric anisotropy (Δε), the liquid crystal composition being useful as a liquid crystal display material, and a liquid crystal display element using the same. The liquid crystal composition of the present invention has a large absolute value of dielectric anisotropy thereof and a low viscosity. By using this liquid crystal composition, it is possible to provide a liquid crystal display element which has a high contrast, high-speed responsiveness, and good display quality in which image sticking and display defects are not generated. The liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal composition is a useful display element which realizes both high-speed response and suppression of display defects. In particular, the liquid crystal display element is useful as a liquid crystal display element for active-matrix driving, and can be applied to, for example, an IPS-type or TN-type liquid crystal display element.
