    • A wireless communication system is provided with a wireless transmission apparatus and a wireless reception apparatus. The wireless transmission apparatus includes a plurality of transmission antennas and a transmission unit. The transmission unit performs signal transmission according to a notified operation mode. The wireless reception apparatus includes a plurality of antennas, a reception unit, a reception quality controller, and an operation mode controller. The reception unit performs reception processing of reception signals received by the reception antennas. The reception quality controller measures a reception quality of each reception signal to calculate a ratio of the reception quality. The operation mode controller determines selection or non-selection of an operation mode according to a comparison result of the ratio and a threshold value and gives notification of the selected operation mode.

    • A signal separation device includes a column switching unit switching a column vector of a channel matrix obtained by estimating a propagation path characteristic so that a transmitted signal component of each transmit antenna is in a left end, a QR decomposition layering unit multiplying received signals by an output from the column switching unit, and outputting a received signal vector in which the received signal is layered so that a transmitted signal exists in a first row, an interference cancellation unit cancelling an interference component from a signal in the first row by using a signal other than the signal in the first row, a signal candidate point selecting unit selecting a prescribed number of signal candidate points from among signals output by the interference cancellation unit, and a signal separation unit separating the transmitted signal from the layered received signal vector using the selected signal candidate point.

    • A magnetic disk apparatus includes a magnetic disk, a magnetic head, a servo reproduction signal generator and a magnetic head controller. The disk includes a data recording area and a servo-pattern area. The data recording area includes a non-magnetic area scattered with magnetic regions, and the servo-pattern area includes uniformly magnetized magnetic regions larger than the magnetic regions in the recording area. The magnetic head reciprocates radially of the disk, giving a magnetization direction to the magnetic regions in the data recording area and reading the magnetization direction of the magnetic regions in the data recording area and the servo-pattern area. The servo reproduction signal generator reads the servo-pattern area, using the magnetic head, via an absolute-value calculation circuit to generate a servo reproduction signal before the recording or reading with respect to the data recording area. The magnetic head controller performs recording or reproducing with respect to the data recording area by controlling the magnetic head based on the servo reproduction signal.
