摘要： A backlight includes light emitting diodes; a substrate on which light emitting diodes are mounted; and a reflection sheet. The surface on which the light emitting diodes are mounted of the substrate is opposed to a rear surface of the liquid crystal display panel. The liquid crystal display panel and the substrate each have a shape in which a common width in a first direction is longer than a width in a second direction, which is orthogonal to the first direction. The width of the substrate in the second direction is shorter than the width of the liquid crystal display panel in the second direction. The substrate is opposed to, while avoiding being opposed to both end portions of the liquid crystal display panel in the second direction, a central portion between the both end portions of the liquid crystal display panel.

The first transparent conductive film covers an upper surface of the color filter layer in both of the first and second regions.

Pixels each of which includes a first pixel electrode, a second pixel electrode and a counter electrode are arranged on a substrate in a matrix array. A first pixel electrode and a second pixel electrode in one pixel include a plurality of comb-teeth portions respectively. The first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode are alternately arranged on the same layer in an opposed manner with a gap defined between the comb-teeth portion of the first pixel electrode and the comb-teeth portion of the second pixel electrode. The first and second pixel electrodes and the counter electrode are arranged in a stacked manner with an insulation layer sandwiched therebetween.

摘要： A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate and a second substrate with a liquid crystal layer therebetween, the first substrate having a plurality of drain signal lines and a plurality of gate signal lines, and a plurality of pixel regions defined by the drain signal lines and the gate signal lines. The pixel regions include a first electrode having a plurality of linear shapes, a second electrode having a planer shape, the second electrode being overlapped with the first electrode through an insulation film, and a thin film transistor having a video signal supplied thereto from the drain signal line. The first electrode is connected with the thin film transistor so that an electric potential of the video signal is supplied thereto, and a standard electric potential is supplied to the second electrode. A third electrode is arranged between the drain signal line and the liquid crystal layer.

摘要： A backlight unit has a light source area. The width of the light source area in a first direction is shorter than the width of a liquid crystal panel in the first direction. A plurality of LED modules (31) are arranged along the second direction perpendicular to the first direction. End lenses (41A, 41B) and a middle lens (42) for enlarging a light divergence angle are disposed on the plurality of LED modules (31). The direction in which the end lens (41A, 41B) enlarges the light divergence angle differs from that in which the middle lens (42) enlarges the divergence angle. This structure can reduce difference in brightness of the liquid crystal panel, while reducing the number of light sources.
