    • Systems and methods for electronic device control based on gestures are provided. A particular method includes sending a menu from a gesture controller to a display device. The menu includes selectable options to control at least one electronic device. The method includes detecting a first user gesture at the gesture controller in response to three dimensional (3D) image data obtained from a gesture camera. The method includes determining at least one command for one or more electronic devices at the gesture controller based on the first user gesture and based on the menu. The method also includes sending the at least one command from the gesture controller to the one or more electronic devices.

    • A remote control liaison device for use in controlling a remote controlled device via a LAN device includes a processor, a wireless transceiver, a remote control signal emitter, a remote control signal emitter adapter, an infrared signal detector, an indicator signal light, a power interface, and memory media accessible to the processor. The memory media may include instructions executable by the processor to establish a communication channel between the remote control liaison device and the LAN device using the wireless transceiver; convert a remote control command signal received from the LAN device for control of the remote controlled device into a device command executable by the remote controlled device; and send an infrared command signal corresponding to the device command to the remote controlled device using at least one of the remote control signal emitter and a second remote control signal emitter connected to the remote control signal emitter adapter.

    • A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a remote controller that manages operations of a set-top box (STB) having a radio frequency (RF) transceiver, a user interface (UI) with one or more components, and a controller operably coupled to the RF transceiver and the UI. The controller can be adapted to cause the RF transceiver to establish a communication session with a subsystem of an interactive media communication system, cause the RF transceiver to transmit to the subsystem a request for media content, cause the UI to present media content supplied by the subsystem without interrupting operations of the STB, and cause the RF transceiver to transmit to the subsystem one or more commands directed to the STB. Other embodiments are disclosed.

    • Systems for forwarding incoming instant messages comprise a primary IM processing device configured to send and receive IM messages. The primary IM processing device is further configured to forward incoming IM messages to an available secondary IM processing devices based upon presence information and availability information on a plurality of secondary IM processing devices. A router is configured to route IM messages between the primary IM processing device and the secondary IM processing devices. An IM server is coupled to a communications network and is configured to send and receive presence information from the primary IM processing device and the secondary IM processing devices.
