    • A method performed by a base station is provided. The method includes receiving, at the base station, a signal containing a transmitted first signal including a network coded message and a transmitted second signal including a non-network coded message, where the second signal is transmitted according to at least one transmission parameter. The method further includes receiving, at the base station, the at least one transmission parameter and determining, by the base station, an interference to the transmitted first signal caused by the transmitted second signal, where the interference is determined using the at least one transmission parameter. The method further includes removing the determined interference from the signal to recover the transmitted first signal.

    • A method for transmitting data includes receiving at a first relay station first data from a parent station during a downlink period comprising a plurality of downlink zones. A network coding zone is one of the plurality of downlink zones and is located at an end of the downlink period, and the first data is received in at least one of the plurality of downlink zones other than the network coding zone. The method further includes receiving at the first relay station from a child station, second data during an uplink zone, and transmitting third data by the first relay station to the child station, during the network coding zone using a resource. The method further includes transmitting the third data to the parent station, during the network coding zone, using the resource. The third data results from the first data being effectively logically XOR-ed to the second data.

    • Time synchronization of an access point base station. The method may include receiving an assignment message from a service provider comprising a plurality of parameters. The plurality of parameters may include an access point base station frequency assignment, a network identifier, an access point base station identifier, a neighbor list, a PN offset, and/or a scrambling code. The access point base station may then synchronize with the macro base station. Synchronizing may include searching for a strongest macro base station in the neighbor list, synchronizing a long code of the access point base station to the macro base station, estimating a propagation delay between the macro base station and the access point base station, and initializing a state of the access point base station PN code using the propagation delay to provide system time synchronization.
