    • The invention relates to a computer-implemented method for selecting a data set from a plurality of data sets by means of a multi-touch input device, the data sets being connected with each other according to a topology of a graph, the input device comprising: a multi-touch screen, a motion sensing unit, and an acceleration sensing unit, the method comprising: displaying a view by the multi-touch screen, the view comprising a plurality of GUI elements, each GUI element representing one of the data sets, whereby one of the GUI elements is used as current GUI element; detecting, by the motion sensing unit, one or more first tilting motions; determining at least one candidate GUI element in dependence on the one or more first tilting motions; highlighting the at least one candidate GUI element; detecting a first shaking motion; automatically selecting, upon the detection of the first shaking motion, the data set represented by the highlighted GUI element.

    • An aircraft power system includes an aircraft engine having a plurality of engine spools, a plurality of AC generators driven by at least one spool, wherein each AC generator is independently operational to supply AC power to a respective AC power bus or a respective power electronics module, and at least one generator driven by a different engine spool, wherein the at least one generator is operational to supply additional AC power to each AC power bus in synchronization with each respective AC generator, or to supply additional AC power to each power electronics module in parallel with the AC power delivered to each power electronics module by the plurality of AC generators. The power electronics module(s) are operational to selectively provide either AC or DC power to desired distribution buses. Each AC generator and the at least one generator may be responsive to commands from an electrical power extraction (EPX) controller. At least one generator may be directly driven to provide variable frequency power.

    • A permanent magnet (PM) machine has a fault condition mechanism disposed within a back iron of the stator portion, the mechanism operational to automatically reduce fault currents associated with the PM machine during a fault condition. The fault condition mechanism disposed within the stator back iron is reconfigurable to automatically reduce internal heat associated with the PM machine during a fault condition. A method of reconfiguring the PM machine upon detecting a fault condition includes the steps of 1) selecting the reconfigurable fault condition mechanism from a) a plurality of magnetically anisotropic rotatable cylinders, b) a plurality of ferrofluid-filled cavities, and c) a dual-phase material selectively embedded within the stator core; and 2) reconfiguring the fault condition mechanism to automatically reduce fault currents or internal heat associated with the PM machine upon detection of a fault condition.
