    • An apparatus for providing diagnostics of a work device includes an electric crane including an operator cabin and a derrick that supports a lifting magnet; a diagnostic panel disposed proximate the operator cabin; a device that provides one or more operating parameters associated with an operation of the electric crane; and a logic controller in communication with the device and diagnostic panel. The logic controller receives the one or more operating parameter. The diagnostic panel provides one or more quantifiable diagnostics of the electric crane and/or magnet according to the one or more operating parameters received by the PLC. A method is also disclosed.

    • A method and apparatus for protecting an energized inductive device such as an electromagnet from an open circuit, i.e., the loss of the power source for the inductive device. A diode is connected across terminals of the inductive device such that when the inductive device is normally energized, the diode is reversed-biased. A spark gap enclosed in a housing is connected in series with the diode. An inert gas fills the housing. A resistance in the form of one or more resistors is in series with both the diode and the spark gap. Upon the sudden loss of supply to the energized device, the diode, the resistance and the spark gap form a path for the discharge of energy from the inductive device.

    • An Ethernet cable used with an Ethernet test-set allows a single connection to an Ethernet port of a network element while maintaining individual connections to separate ports on the test-set. The far-end of the signal path is a single Ethernet cable port having its transmit and receive pins interconnected. The far-end port interconnections cause a test signal which has traveled to the far-end port to be returned to the test-set and to be receive in a test-set port other than the originating port Two signal paths can be simultaneously tested with the same test-kit. Interconnections between the test-set ports by way of the cable maintain a “no-signal”alarm disabled, which otherwise would be energized because there is no signal being received in the port from which the test signal originated.

    • A method for operating an electric crane, comprises the steps of activating a magnet controller to cause a current to flow through a magnet for creating a magnetic field about the magnet for securing a load to the magnet, receiving a feedback input value at a logic controller from a device associated with the electric crane, in response to the received feedback input value at the logic controller, receiving a command value at the magnet controller from the logic controller, and in response to the received command value at the magnet controller, modifying the current flow from the magnet controller to the magnet to change the magnetic field about the magnet.     • An Ethernet cable for use with an Ethernet test-set which allows a single connection to an Ethernet port of a network element while maintaining individual connections to two separate ports on the test-set, thereby allowing a successful test of a signal path in an Ethernet network to be conducted when the far-end of the signal path is a single Ethernet cable port having its transmit and receive pins interconnected. The far-end port interconnections cause a test signal which has traveled to the far-end port to be returned to the test-set and, in view of the cable configuration, to be received in a test-set port other than the port from which the signal test signal originated. Test-sets do not permit test signals to be returned to ports from which they originate. In an embodiment, two signal paths can be simultaneously tested with the same test-kit. Interconnections between the two test-set ports by way of the cable maintain a “no-signal” alarm disabled, which otherwise would be energized because there is no signal being received in the port from which the test signal originated.
