    • The present disclosure relates to a method in a user equipment (100), configured for operation using a non-contiguous downlink carrier configuration within a first frequency band. Said non-contiguous downlink carrier configuration comprises at least two blocks wherein each block comprises one downlink carrier or several adjacent downlink carriers within the first frequency band and there is a gap between any two blocks among said at least two blocks. The method comprises receiving (502) a control signal indicating that compressed mode should be configured for a first block among said at least two blocks and that compressed mode should not be configured for a second block among said at least two blocks, and configuring (504) downlink compressed mode operation in the user equipment for the first block but not the second block in accordance with said received control signal. The disclosure also relates to a corresponding method in a radio network controller communicating with the user equipment.

    • A new set of random-access preamble signatures are introduced to differentiate new-release UEs from UEs compliant only with earlier releases. Additional new features of a random-access procedure are also disclosed, including an ability to deploy multiple transmission-time-intervals TTIs) in a given area. An example mobile terminal, according to some embodiments of the present invention, selects a TTI from two or more possible TTIs. The mobile terminal then selects a preamble signature from a group of one or more preamble signatures associated with enhanced-uplink resources and associated with the selected TTI, and transmits a random-access channel (RACH) preamble, using the selected preamble signature. In some embodiments, the mobile terminal selects between a 2-millisecond TTI and a 10-millisecond TTI.

    • A method providing communications for a wireless terminal in a wireless communication network may include providing communications for the wireless terminal from a first antenna array for a first base station sector. Responsive to receiving an entry notification that the wireless terminal has entered a border area between the first base station sector and a second base station sector, a load in the second base station sector may be compared with a load threshold. Responsive to the load in the second base station sector being less than the load threshold, multipoint communications may be provided for the wireless terminal through the first antenna array for the first base station sector and through a second antenna array for the second base station sector. Responsive to the load in the second base station sector being greater than the load threshold, multipoint communications may be blocked for the wireless terminal.
