    • A system and method for automatically adjusting medical displays is arranged to communicate medical information to a caregiver. The system includes at least one display for displaying medical information, a wireless communication device associated with the display and a wireless communication device associated with the caregiver. The wireless communication device associated with the display is arranged to realize if the wireless communication device associated with the caregiver, and thus the caregiver, is present in a predetermined area near the display. A controller associated with the display is arranged to automatically adjust at least one characteristic of the display based upon the realized presence of the caregiver. According to the method, the presence of the caregiver is detected when the caregiver enters the predetermined area near the display. At lease one characteristic of the display is thus adjusted automatically based upon the detected presence of the caregiver in the predetermined area.

    • A counterbalance mechanism is disclosed for offsetting the normal gravitational forces exerted on a rotatable cylindrical hood for an incubator. The mechanism includes a specially shaped cam that is fixed with respect to the rotatable hood. A cam follower, mounted on a slide movable with the rotatable hood, is spring biased against the cam. As the rotatable hood is moved to various positions, the spring loading and cam profile coact to produce a counter-rotational force that is opposite and equal to the force of gravity acting upon the hood at any point in its rotation. One or more detents is provided in the cam at predetermined positions such that the cam follower can be positioned within one of the detents at one or more desired positions of hood rotation such that the hood may be held at that selected position.

    • An improved infant incubator is disclosed having a cylindrical shaped transparent hood which provide considerable accessibility to the infant. The cylindrically shaped hood consists of a plurality of sections rotatable about a central axis. The sections may be individually opened to give limited access to the infant or totally rotated to a position beneath the infant support structure such that access may be had from all sides of the incubator without obstructions. Heating of the incubator compartment is achieved by a unique means of circulating heated air through a double wall construction of the hood. The air is heated in a compartment beneath the infant and the warm air enters one of the hood sections and circulates through that section whereupon it is transferred serially to the next section and eventually can be received back into the heater compartment from the hood sections for recirculation. A fan and heater are located in the heater compartment for heating and circulating the air. The double wall hood is readily disassembled and one of the walls removable to facilitate cleaning of all wall surfaces.

    • An infant incubator is disclosed having a hood that encloses the infant compartment. In the base of the incubator is the heating air and ducting means and which provides heated through an ever open outlet in the base and which heated air passes from the base through a flow path formed by the hood that circulates around the infant and re-enters the base through an inlet. That heated air is thus introduced into or along the access door in the front of the hood from the outlet and travels through or along the access door and through or along the hood around the infant and is returned to the base for recirculation. The hood itself is pivotally attached to the base at the rear of the incubator so that it can be opened from the front for complete access to the infant. The access door in the front of the hood is pivotally attached to the incubator base and can also be opened for access to the infant. When the access door is in its closed position, it forms part of the air path for the heated air. The heated air from the access door continues to pass along the flow path formed by the hood. When the access door is opened, it pivots out of the way of the air flow from the ever open outlet in the base and the flow of heated air continues over the area normally occupied by the access door when in its closed position forming an air curtain to protect the environment of the infant compartment. The flow of air thereafter enters the flow path formed by the hood in the same manner as the path of the air flow when the access door is closed and eventually re-enters the base through the inlet.
