    • An information processing system comprises a system management tool, a managed system and a classifier. The system management tool receives a result of a situation classification operation from the classifier, and automatically takes a management action relating to the managed system based at least in part on the result of the situation classification operation. The situation classification result may be determined by monitoring operation of the managed system in a situational state space having dimensions that characterize operating conditions of the system, and identifying a current state of the system in the situational state space. The management action automatically taken by the system management tool may comprise, for example, setting at least one policy for the managed system by selecting and deploying a particular one of a plurality of policy sets responsive to the result of the situation classification operation.

    • Described are techniques for automatically provisioning storage for an application. A request to provision object-based storage for the application in a data storage system is received The request identifies the application and is received from a user interface interacting with the data storage system at a specified one of a plurality of user levels, each of said plurality of user levels being associated with a different level of abstraction with respect to first processing performed in implementing the request. The first processing is performed to provision object-based storage for the request. The first processing is determined in accordance with the application and includes a level of automation varying in accordance with the specified user level at which the user interface interacts with the data storage system. The automation includes selecting one or more default options in accordance with best practices of the application.

    • A clip for securing a component, such as a circuit board, within a communications module is disclosed. The clip may include a flat base with legs extending therefrom and resilient springs disposed at terminal ends of each of the legs. The legs may be configured to frictionally secure the clip to the module. For instance, the legs may secure the clip to a top shell portion of the module. The springs may be configured to resiliently compress against corresponding contact zones on the circuit board when the top shell is mated with a bottom shell of the module such that the circuit board is secured in place within the module. Accordingly, embodiments of the invention enable the quick and simple assembly of modules without the need for fasteners and other time-consuming and/or labor-intensive solutions conventionally implemented to secure circuit boards and other components within the modules.

    • A service provider management system (SPMS) that connects to storage resources in a datacenter controlled by a service provider and a database that stores information about the datacenter and customers that receive the storage resources as a service. The SPMS enables the service provider to allocate storage resources to a customer and to assign ownership to billable devices, such as disks, volumes, ports, and so forth, as well as to generate billing information based on hardware configuration and customer usage. The SPSM is supported on a server architecture, which includes a Web server that exports a first interface to the service provider to enable the service provider to manage the data storage resources to which the SPMS is connected, and a second interface to the customer to enable the customer to manage the allocated data storage resources directly.
